Overview

AtkinsRéalis Ireland is looking for a Civils & Structural Lead to play a key role in shaping the future of rail infrastructure across Ireland. This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and forward‑thinking leader who wants to make a real impact on projects, people, and the communities our work serves.

Role Summary

In this role, you will provide technical leadership across major rail and public transport projects, supporting delivery from early concept through to construction. You will work alongside multi‑disciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders to develop safe, sustainable, and buildable solutions for heavy rail, light rail, and metro schemes. You will also help create an inclusive team environment where different perspectives are valued, people are supported to grow, and technical excellence thrives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality civil and structural engineering solutions across new construction, renewals, and maintenance works, taking pride in work that is safe, reliable, and fit for purpose.
  • Collaborate with diverse national and international design teams, using your technical expertise and leadership to help achieve positive and sustainable outcomes for society and the environment.
  • Lead and support the production and review of design documentation, including sketches, drawings, BIM deliverables, calculations, reports, and specifications, ensuring consistent quality and clarity.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their challenges and objectives, drawing on the breadth of AtkinsRéalis capabilities to help shape practical, integrated solutions.
  • Combine hands‑on technical contribution with the opportunity to guide and support junior engineers, sharing knowledge and encouraging professional development.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of capability within the team and wider business, supporting an inclusive, collaborative, and high‑performing culture.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, supporting effective communication and successful project delivery.
  • Stay connected to emerging best practice, innovation, and advances within your area of expertise, helping to keep our rail solutions forward‑looking and resilient.
Key Deliverables
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for civil and structural rail designs across all project stages.
  • Lead and support multi‑disciplinary design teams, fostering collaboration and shared ownership of outcomes.
  • Ensure the quality, safety, and compliance of civil and structural designs with relevant standards and best practice.
  • Contribute to project planning, risk management, and design assurance, supporting on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
  • Work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand project needs and deliver practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Support and mentor engineers, helping to develop talent and build an inclusive, high‑performing team culture.
  • Champion innovation, sustainability, and constructability in the development of rail infrastructure solutions.
About You
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of Engineers Ireland, ICE or IStructE.
  • Experience of acting as a CRE or Engineering Manager for railway civil engineering works or stations projects.
  • Experience working with rail projects.
  • Good understanding of relevant design standards.
  • Practical knowledge of railway civil engineering or station design.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.
