Job summary

Carbery Group in Ireland is seeking a dedicated R&D/Pilot Plant Assistant to join our team. You will manufacture and test new recipes at pilot plant or lab scale, build data on products and processes, and help transfer knowledge to operations.

Day-to-day work includes sourcing materials for trials, recording data, assisting in product testing, coordinating sample shipments, and maintaining the pilot plant and SOPs in line with CI and Health and Safety practices. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Food Processing qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Previous or relevant experience in Operations or R&D role an advantage but not essential.
  • Training will be provided in the role.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the pilot plant/lab is clean and ready for trial work and all equipment is maintained and working within specification.
  • Sourcing and collection of raw materials for trials
  • Manufacture of new products
  • Record management: Recording of all data, observations and learnings from the trial.
  • Assisting in the assessment/testing of the products made in the pilot plant or on bench
  • Sample management: Sending samples to lab for testing or externally to customers.
  • Co-ordinating and testing product attributes over time.
  • Stock management of raw material inputs and finished trial products.
  • Assisting in evaluation of new technologies over the research programme as required.
  • Assisting in the set up and maintenance of SOPs in the pilot plant facility/lab and developing / adhering to CI and Health and Safety practices
  • Liaise with operations of the transfer of knowledge from R&D to main plant.
  • Cross training and support to cover other Research assistants in Powder Area

Your Role in Carbery's Success

The successful candidate will work as part of the R&D team to deliver our R&D programme objectives. The person will test and develop new recipes, processes and technology assessments providing new protypes for evaluation internally or externally in the marketplace. They will build up data and knowledge on new products, processes and technology as part of the R&D evaluations and use this knowledge in the subsequent transfer of new products and processes to operations team. This person will be manufacturing/ testing products at pilot plant and/or lab scale. This person may also be asked from time to time to support other R&D activities as part of the R&D function.

Working hours

Day hours (8:30 to 17:00 hrs) Monday to Friday, Saturday in exceptional circumstances. Early starts or later finishes will be required, at times, to facilitate trial schedules and raw material collection.
