Job summary

Roughan & O’Donovan is seeking an experienced Project Resident Engineer for an 18-month fixed-term contract in north Cork. You will oversee day-to-day site operations on bridge and local road diversion projects within a live railway environment, ensuring compliance with contract specs, HSE, quality and environmental standards.

The role requires a degree in engineering (Level 8) and extensive experience supervising major civil works, including PW-CF3 contract administration and railway projects.

Qualifications

• A degree in engineering (Level 8 or equivalent).
• At least 15 years postgraduate experience supervising major civil works.
• Ten years civil works plus seven years in project/senior resident engineer role on civil projects.
• Experience with rail/road infrastructure projects and value thresholds.
• Experience administering PW-CF3 forms of contract.
• Experience in railway environment supervision and contract administration.

Responsibilities

• Assist the employer’s representative in duties.
• Administer PW-CF3 contract for civil works.
• Manage site-based team and delegate tasks per contract.
• Review contractor submissions, MTMs and environmental plans.
• Liaise with design teams on technical queries.
• Coordinate with stakeholders and utility providers.

Project Resident Engineer

Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit an experienced project resident engineer for an 18-month contract position in the north Cork area.

About the role

You will manage and supervise the site supervision team responsible for the delivery of several bridge construction and local road diversion projects in county Cork.

The role will involve overseeing day-to-day site operations and ensuring compliance with contract specifications, health and safety requirements, quality standards and environmental regulations in a live railway environment.

Duties

• Assist the employer’s representative in the performance of his/her duties

• Administer the public works contract for civil engineering works designed by the employer (PW-CF3)

• Manage the site-based team, delegate tasks and monitor the execution of the works in accordance with the contract requirements

• Review the contractor’s submissions, including method statements, temporary traffic management plans and environmental management plans

• Review technical queries and liaise with the design team onany design-related matters

• Liaise with stakeholders and utility providers

• Establish procedures and systems for quality control, accurate record-keeping and claims management

Essential

• A degree in engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)

• At least 15 years’ postgraduate experience in the supervision of major civil engineering works, including:

  • a minimum of ten years’ experience in civil engineering works and a minimum of seven years’ combined experience in the role of project/senior resident engineer or equivalent on civil engineering projects, including:

    • civil infrastructure projects (rail/roads) including at least one with a construction value in excess of €15.0 million (exclusive of VAT)

    • bridge projects including at least one individual bridge structure with a construction value in excess of €0.5 million (exclusive of VAT)

• Have undertaken the role of project/senior resident engineer or equivalent on civil infrastructure projects constructed under the Public Works Contract (PW-CF3)

• Experience in the supervision of works in a railway environment

• Experience in administering the public works forms of contract

Desirable

• Chartered engineer status (CEng MIEI or equivalent)

• Personal Track Safety training

• Knowledge and experience of the Iarnród Eireann Project Management Procedures (PMP)

• Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation and regulations

• Experience of dispute management procedures under civil engineering construction contracts

• Experience in the assessment and approval or otherwise of value engineering proposals
