Job summary

Veolia in Kilkenny is seeking a Project Engineer (Mechanical) for small projects. You will support engineering design from concept to detailed design, coordinating a multi‑discipline team across water and wastewater facilities in Ireland.

You will liaise with project managers, manage subcontractors, and ensure delivery on schedule and budget while maintaining Veolia standards and H&S guidelines. A NFQ Level 7 degree and site experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• NFQ Level 7 degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred).
• Practical site experience is desirable.
• Experience in water/wastewater projects is desirable.
• Proficient IT skills: Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint.

Job description

Project Engineer (Mechanical) - Small Projects

Location: Kilkenny

Duration: Permanent

Work Hours/Schedule: Role will be mix of office/site based and WFH - Monday to Friday role

Due to ageing assets and an increased scope on maintenance works across a number of operational water and wastewater facilities in Ireland, there is expanded scope for small and medium size upgrade works to be completed onsite.

The successful candidate will work alongside the Project Manager in coordinating a multi disciplined team to include process/mechanical/civil/structural/electrical work associated with various Water and Wastewater Treatment projects across the Island of Ireland.

The Project Engineer will have responsibility for assisting in the design development of the water and wastewater treatment contracts from early design / concept stage through to detailed design stage and onto delivery / construction stage. Collaborating with the Project Manager in the preparation of delivery documentation for client submissions including technical submissions, managing sub-consultant submissions , preparing regulatory Health & Safety documentation, detailed design packages, tendering documentation and construction design packages.

During delivery stage the Project Engineer will liaise with design teams and suppliers, manage subcontractors, installation personnel and commissioning teams to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule and within budget. Ensure, all equipment is sized, procured, delivered, installed, tested and ultimately commissioned in accordance with contractual requirements.

Day to Day of the Role:

• Take ownership of delegated projects and project issues
• Ensure thorough knowledge and understanding of the contract for all assigned projects
• Evaluation of Client Specifications as well as liaising with Client and Client Representatives
• Communicate with the Project Manager, National General Manager and Water operations team including site managers during the execution of the project
• Interact with our multi-disciplined engineering team, partaking in the final design, equipment selection and procurement activities
• Organising, co-coordinating and managing design activities while maintaining H&S in line with Veolia standards
• Managing aspects of the project within defined budgets and agreed timelines through monitoring and tracking for adherence with the project brief and programme
• Apply procedures in place related to contract execution

Required Skills for the Role:

• Minimum NFQ Level 7 degree in an Engineering (Mechanical Engineering Degree is preferable) and/or Science Discipline
• Practical site experience (Desired)
• Practical experience in being part of a project team from initial stages to delivery stage
• Managing design/site activities including team coordination
• Ability to work on own initiative and effectively manage & coordinate design /site activities
• Experience in the execution of water/wastewater engineering projects is desirable
• IT skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Power Point
• Good organisational and time management skills
• Self-motivated
• Strong communication and writing skills
