Job summary

GMC Utilities Group is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join the Metering Team, delivering utility metering projects across Leinster. This hands-on role blends engineering, site management and client engagement to ensure safe, high-quality delivery on programme.

The successful candidate will coordinate with project managers, site teams, utility providers and subcontractors, review technical docs, carry out site surveys and contribute to continuous improvement within the Metering Team.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Construction, Energy, Utilities or related discipline.
  • Experience in project engineering, utilities, construction or infrastructure environments.
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
  • Good health and safety understanding in construction/utility environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clients and teams.
  • Good IT skills and full clean driving licence with willingness to travel across Leinster.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the engineering and technical aspects of metering projects across Leinster.
  • Support projects from planning and design through installation, commissioning and completion.
  • Coordinate with clients, utility companies, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
  • Review drawings, specifications and project requirements.
  • Carry out site surveys, inspections and technical assessments.
  • Assist with site works planning and scheduling.
  • Monitor progress against programme, budget and quality requirements.
  • Provide technical support to site teams and subcontractors.
  • Ensure installations meet standards and client requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, manage risks, prepare documentation.

The Role.

GMC Utilities Group is seeking an experienced and motivated Project Engineer to join our Metering Team, supporting the delivery of utility metering projects across Leinster.

This is a hands‑on project delivery role, combining engineering, coordination, site management and client engagement. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, site teams, utility providers, subcontractors and customers to ensure metering projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and to the required quality standards.

The role will suit an engineer who enjoys working across both office and site environments and is looking to develop their career within the utilities and infrastructure sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Manage and coordinate the engineering and technical aspects of metering projects across Leinster.
  • Support projects from initial planning and design through to installation, commissioning and completion.
  • Coordinate with clients, utility companies, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
  • Review drawings, specifications, technical documentation and project requirements.
  • Carry out site surveys, inspections and technical assessments as required.
  • Assist with the planning and scheduling of site works and installation activities.
  • Monitor project progress against programme, budget, quality and technical requirements.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to site teams and subcontractors.
  • Ensure metering installations are completed in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and client requirements.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, site constraints and project risks.Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports, records and handover information.
  • Assist with procurement, material requirements and subcontractor coordination.
  • Support commissioning, testing and final project close-out.
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with GMC Utilities Group's health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Metering Team.
The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies:
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction, Energy, Utilities or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in a project engineering, utilities, construction or infrastructure environment.
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements within construction and utility environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors and site teams.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel to projects throughout Leinster.
