Job summary

Transport Infrastructure Ireland invites an Archaeologist to join the Southern Team of the Archaeology and Heritage Section, reporting to the Senior Archaeologist. The role covers national road, greenway, active travel and public transport schemes across multiple counties, with responsibilities to manage heritage projects and ensure compliance with TII policies.

Qualifications

• Degree in Archaeology (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent).
• Minimum 5 years experience managing archaeology/cultural heritage projects.
• Satisfactory knowledge of Irish archaeology policy and legislation.
• Knowledge of archaeology practice including survey, remote sensing, excavation and planning/development issues.
• Experience in management of excavation/post-excavation and dissemination from inception to completion.
• Strong technical training, analytical skills and IT proficiency.
• Commitment to quality in delivery of work.
• Excellent report writing and editorial skills with ability to produce high quality analysis.
• Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to influence stakeholders.
• Fluent English and driving licence.
• Experience of cultural heritage impact assessment on large-scale development projects.
• Experience of management of archaeology/cultural heritage on large-scale development projects.
• Eligible to hold an archaeological excavation licence.
• Experience of creation and management of digital data and GIS proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Fulfil the duties of Project Archaeologist on schemes as assigned by TII.
• Advise on archaeology implications and risks for schemes at all stages.
• Support the Senior Engineer and project teams in heritage management.
• Represent TII on national committees and fora.
• Develop relationships with stakeholders including National Monuments Service and museums.
• Prepare strategies for dissemination and responses to inquiries.
• Oversee procurement and contracts for heritage services.
• Create and maintain digital data relating to archaeology for schemes.
• Promote TII archaeology work at fora locally and internationally.
