Job summary

Dolmen Design & Innovation seeks a mid/senior Product Designer to shape the future of FMCG and Med-tech/Life Sciences brands. You will lead projects, influence design direction, and collaborate closely with clients to deliver innovative, production-ready solutions from discovery through R&D to manufacturing.

The role requires leading teams, mentoring juniors, and building strong client relationships at our Dublin studio.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant experience in industrial design or design engineering, leading design projects and teams.
• Degree in Product Design / Industrial Design / Product Design Engineering or related technical discipline; additional topics (UI/UX, electronics, sustainability) advantageous.
• Experience delivering products from discovery to manufacture with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead design projects from discovery to manufacturing, guiding clients and strategy.
• Develop innovative solutions and articulate design direction across teams.
• Mentor junior designers and help grow the design capability within the studio.

The Opportunity

Dolmen Design are looking for an experienced Mid/Senior Product Designer to join our team to help shape the future for some of the world’s most exciting brands in the fields of FMCG and Med-tech & Life Sciences. The role:

• Bring products through the entire design process from discovery to R&D, to manufacture, guiding clients and influencing decisions & strategy.
• You will get to fulfil your passion as a designer solving complex design challenges with innovative solutions.
• We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our clients, embedding ourselves into their team where you will get to foster a collaborative spirt, understanding their needs & translating them into effective solutions.
• Story telling is a big part of our process where you will help generate content to inspire internal and external teams.
• Lead collaborative ideation sessions, setting the themes and guiding clients through the process with support from lead designers.
• Get exposure to projects from a diverse client base, managing resources, commercial objectives, costs and aligning project activities with business goals.
• You will get to flex your technical and creative muscles on projects that combine innovative engineering solutions married with aesthetic designs & visualisations that reflect and elevate our clients designs language.
• Lead R&D prototype development and testing schedules and translate these into cost effective manufacturable products.
• Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure cost targets & design intent are kept during the manufacturing process.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Sketching: Strong sketching skills to quickly communicate design concepts and ideas, both digitally and by hand, with a high level of creativity and precision.
• Visualisation: ability to create compelling and emotive visuals that communicate the design intent using Adobe CS and Keyshot.
• CAD: Strong CAD capabilities in SolidWorks and/or Creo to rapidly develop complex assemblies with accurate parts which are specified with detailed drawings. An advantage to have working knowledge of simulation tools (FEA, CFD, Moldflow) to optimise parameters.
• Prototyping: Strong hands-on prototyping skills to build and test physical models, ensuring aesthetics, functionality and usability are verified at each project stage.
• DFM: Experience in designing for manufacture (e.g. injection moulding, sheet fabrication, casting) to ensure feasible concepts are developed and design intent is maintained to production.
• Time Management: Excellent time management skills to deliver multiple projects and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
• Agility + Initiative: Strong ability to adapt quickly to changing project requirements and proactive initiative to evaluate, prioritise and deliver on project commitments.
• Teamwork: Proficient teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional project teams (internal and external) and ensure alignment on key project decisions.
• Communication: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate topics clearly and in accessible language to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
• Leadership: Experience leading teams, mentoring and guiding them through the design process and ensuring delivery of project goals.

Experience and Qualifications:

• A 6+ years of relevant experience in industrial design or design engineering in a fast-paced environment, with experience in leading design projects and teams.
• A recognised degree level qualification in Product Design / Industrial Design / Product Design Engineering or a related technical discipline. Further qualifications in related topics is advantageous (e.g. UI/UX, electronics, CAD, sustainability).
