Job description

We are partnering with a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Dublin 15 to source a Process Scientist for a 12-month contract opportunity. This role offers competitive hourly rates and the chance to work within a dynamic Global Operations & Quality team, driving process development and standardisation initiatives at a state-of-the‑art manufacturing facility.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Operations, you will be responsible for performing and overseeing multi‑step process development, standardisation, and evaluation with the aim of establishing laboratory‑scale manufacturing modules to solve complex issues related to materials and process‑related changes. Working within the Technical Operations team, you will support ongoing production activities in the existing manufacturing facility while maintaining a considerable development laboratory focus for replication of processes at small scale. You will collaborate closely with Operations, Quality (QA/QC), Regulatory, Engineering, and other internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain laboratory‑scale manufacturing models to attain a deeper understanding of the process and implement process control strategies in the commercial manufacturing environment.
  • Utilise advanced chemistry and laboratory tools and techniques (e.g., FTIR, NMR, UPLC/MS, lyophilisation, autoclave, extraction, and purification) to develop, assess, and improve manufacturing processes and pathways.
  • Carry out feasibility studies, process optimisation, lab validations, and technology transfer to plant, identifying and evaluating critical process parameters.
  • Design, plan, and execute multi‑step experimental studies guided by risk assessment to deliver safe, efficient, robust, and scalable manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate scientific results in a clear, concise, and accurate manner via electronic laboratory notebook documentation, development reports, project discussions, and presentations.
  • Serve as Person in Plant for manufacturing campaigns as required and lead tech transfer projects between CMOs and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
  • PhD, MSc, or BSc in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or a related science; analytical background preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a biomanufacturing or process‑related environment, with strong knowledge of laboratory tools and techniques (FTIR, NMR, UPLC/MS, lyophilisation, autoclave, extraction, purification, etc.).
  • Proven ability to work independently and adapt to fluid situations, with excellent communication skills and demonstrated teamwork in scientific laboratory settings.
  • Advanced problem‑solving skills and technical competency, with the ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional team environment.
  • Computer fluency in MS Office Suites and ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing challenges of the role, including occasional out‑of‑hours support and ad‑hoc project participation.
