Job summary

Metric Bio is seeking an experienced Process Development/ MSAT engineer to advance biopharmaceutical process development, integrating PAT, QbD, and DoE methodologies. Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of industry experience in Process Development Engineering or Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MSAT) with MSc, or 3+ years with a bachelor.
  • Strong understanding of chemical engineering fundamentals across upstream and/or downstream bioprocessing.
  • Knowledge of QbD, DoE, and process characterization methodologies.
  • Experience with scale-up/scale-down models and technology transfer for upstream and/or downstream processes.
  • Experience using statistical analysis software such as JMP, Minitab, R, Python, or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a multidisciplinary research team to support planning, organization, and execution of pharmaceutical process development R&D programs.
  • Design and establish scale-down laboratory models for unit operations to understand and optimize manufacturing-scale processes.
  • Develop and enhance digital workflows for process monitoring, data acquisition, chemometric analysis, and data integration.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new technologies including PAT for upstream and downstream bioprocess unit operations.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, and project documentation; present findings to clients as required.
  • Apply engineering principles and computations to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Ensure GLP-compliant laboratory activities and support GMP/regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain operations and address facility or equipment issues.
  • Coach and train junior team members where appropriate.

  • Work within a multidisciplinary research team to support the planning, organization, and execution of pharmaceutical process development R&D programs.
  • Design and establish scale-down laboratory models for pharmaceutical unit operations to understand and optimize manufacturing-scale processes.
  • Develop and enhance digital workflows for process monitoring, data acquisition, chemometric analysis, and data integration.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new technologies, including Process Analytical Technology (PAT), for upstream and downstream bioprocess unit operations.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, and project documentation, and present project progress, technical findings, and recommendations to clients as required.
  • Apply engineering principles, calculations, and computational methods to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Adopt, maintain, and continuously improve engineering workflows and support their integration into commercial R&D projects and internal innovation initiatives.
  • Ensure laboratory activities are conducted in accordance with GLP requirements.
  • Support commercial and innovation-focused R&D projects using engineering and modeling tools such as CFD, MATLAB, Python, MVDA, Dynochem, and related software.
  • Author and review technical reports and project documentation.
  • Ensure safe working practices are maintained in accordance with applicable local regulations and legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Coordinator, Facilities Supervisor, Area Owners, and Equipment Owners to maintain laboratory operations and address facility or equipment issues.
  • Where appropriate, coach, mentor, and train junior team members.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of industry experience in Process Development Engineering or Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MSAT) (with an MSc), or 3+ years of relevant industry experience (with a bachelor's degree).
  • Strong understanding and application of chemical engineering fundamentals across upstream and/or downstream bioprocessing.
  • Knowledge of Quality by Design (QbD), Design of Experiments (DoE), and process characterization methodologies.
  • Experience with scale-up/scale-down models and technology transfer for upstream and/or downstream process unit operations.
  • Experience using statistical analysis software such as JMP, Minitab, R, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated project management capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills, including experience delivering technical presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with spectroscopy techniques such as Raman, NIR, FTIR, UV-Vis, or other Process Analytical Technology (PAT) tools.
  • Experience developing chemometric models and supporting their implementation.
  • Experience scaling processes from laboratory to pilot or commercial manufacturing and supporting technology transfer activities.
  • Knowledge of mechanistic modeling software such as gPROMS, Aspen Plus, SIMCA, MATLAB SimBiology, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with GMP and applicable FDA, EMA, and ICH regulatory requirements.
