The role sits between delivery, engineering, planning, estimating and commercial, driving strategy and technical leadership across bids.

The candidate will guide methodologies, sequencing and buildability, coordinating with planning, estimating and commercial teams to ensure robust, well-costed proposals.

Job description

We arecurrently recruiting a Preconstruction Winning Engineering Lead for my client’s growing Energy & Industry division.

This is a Senior level position within my clients organisation,sitting between project delivery, engineering, planning, estimating and commercial, with responsibility for developing how major power and energy projects will actually be constructed at tender and pre-construction stage.

It would suit an experienced Engineering Manager, Project Manager, Construction Manager or Pre-Construction Engineer who has delivered major projects and has also been involved in tenders, constructability and developing project delivery strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the engineering and technical strategy for major project tenders.
• Develop construction methodologies, sequencing, access, logistics and delivery strategies.
• Carry out constructability and buildability reviews.
• Work closely with planning, estimating and commercial teams to ensure the proposed methodology is accurately programmed and costed.
• Identify technical risks, opportunities and potential value-engineering solutions.
• Develop technical submissions, method statements and supporting tender documentation.
• Provide engineering input into project programmes and cost plans.
• Participate in client technical presentations, tender meetings and site visits.
• Support design development and ensure a structured technical handover from tender into project delivery.
• Support mobilisation and early project works following contract award.
• Provide technical leadership and support to engineers within the pre-construction team.

Key Skills:

• Strong background in construction, engineering or project delivery within power, energy, utilities or major infrastructure.
• Experience delivering projects involving HV substations, transmission & distribution, energy infrastructure or heavy civils would be particularly relevant.
• Previous involvement in tendering or pre-construction on major projects.
• Practical understanding of how projects are constructed, including methodology, sequencing, buildability and site logistics.
• Comfortable working across engineering, construction, planning, estimating and commercial teams.
• Experience with NEC or FIDIC contracts would be beneficial.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify project risks and opportunities.
• Able to communicate technical solutions clearly to both internal teams and clients.
• Suitable for someone coming from a Senior Project Manager, Engineering Manager, Construction Manager or Pre-Construction background who wants to move into a more strategic role.
