EdTech SaaS | Pre-Sales | Solution Consulting | Technical Sales
Technology isn't just about what a platform can do.
It's about understanding what a customer actually needs and turning that into a solution that works.
Our client is an established EdTech SaaS business operating in the assessment and examination technology space, and they're looking for a Pre-Sales Solution Consultant to join their growing commercial team.
This is a highly consultative, customer-facing role working closely with Account Executives throughout the sales process.
You'll lead technical discovery, run workshops and tailored demonstrations, understand customer workflows and integration requirements, and translate complex business and technical needs into practical solutions.
You'll also work closely with Product, Engineering, Services and Customer Success, helping identify solution gaps, manage technical risks and ensure what is sold can ultimately be delivered.
The pre-sales function is currently lean, with one existing pre-sales engineer supporting the business. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys a startup environment, takes ownership and wants to have a genuine influence on how a pre-sales function develops.
If you're technically curious, commercially aware and enjoy getting in front of customers to solve real problems, this could be a great opportunity.
You'll work closely with AEs throughout the sales cycle, helping understand each opportunity, identify customer requirements and determine what is needed to progress the sale.
You'll act as the technical and solution-focused counterpart to the commercial team, helping customers understand both the capabilities and value of the platform.
You'll engage with prospects to understand their business, operational and technical requirements.
This will include exploring:
You'll turn that discovery into a clear understanding of what the customer actually needs.
You'll translate customer requirements into practical and scalable solutions.
You'll determine whether requirements can be addressed through standard functionality, configuration, integration or alternative approaches, while ensuring proposed solutions are technically feasible and aligned with the platform.
You'll also identify potential gaps, dependencies and risks and work with the relevant teams to establish the right way forward.
You'll plan and deliver tailored demonstrations that reflect each prospect's requirements and priorities.
This isn't about giving the same product demo to every customer.
You'll use what you've learned through discovery to bring the solution to life in a way that's relevant to the customer's specific situation.
You'll also lead discovery sessions, workshops, presentations and customer meetings alongside the AE.
You'll contribute to the technical, solution, integration and operational elements of RFPs, RFIs and tender responses.
You'll act as a key technical contact throughout the sales process, working across Sales, Product, Engineering and Services to ensure customer requirements are properly understood and addressed.
You'll bring customer requirements and market feedback back into the business.
That could include identifying:
You'll help ensure customer insight feeds back into the wider organisation.
Once a deal is won, you'll help ensure the agreed solution and customer requirements are clearly understood by the implementation teams.
You'll help bridge the gap between what was discovered and designed during pre-sales and what ultimately needs to be delivered.
This is a lean team, so you'll have the opportunity to do more than simply execute an established pre-sales process.
You'll help identify ways to improve demonstrations, reduce sales-cycle delays, make it easier for prospects to understand and evaluate the platform and share best practices across the team.
You'll have at least 3 years' relevant post-graduate experience in a SaaS, technology or technology-enabled services environment.
You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional Sales Engineering career path.
Relevant backgrounds could include:
The key is that you've developed both technical problem-solving ability and meaningful customer-facing experience.
You'll be comfortable engaging with customers and stakeholders with different levels of technical knowledge.
You'll be confident running discovery sessions, presentations, workshops and demonstrations, while being able to build rapport and communicate technical concepts clearly.
You'll be able to take a complex customer problem, understand the underlying requirements and translate it into a clear, practical solution.
You'll know when to use existing functionality, when configuration is appropriate and when integration or an alternative approach is required.
Experience or familiarity with areas such as:
will be highly relevant.
You don't need to be a software engineer, but you should be technically credible and comfortable discussing how systems connect and how solutions can be implemented.
You'll understand that pre-sales isn't simply about answering technical questions.
You'll be comfortable working alongside AEs, understanding the sales opportunity, tailoring the solution to the customer and helping move an opportunity towards a successful outcome.
You'll be proactive and comfortable taking ownership of questions and problems.
If you don't have the answer, you'll know how to investigate it, bring in the right people and drive the issue towards resolution rather than simply passing it on.
This is a lean, growing function, so you'll need to be comfortable operating without extensive structure or hand-holding.
You'll be expected to manage multiple priorities, work cross-functionally and help build better ways of working as the business grows.
You'll have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex technical concepts understandable to customers, colleagues and non-technical stakeholders.
You'll join a lean pre-sales team at an important stage of its development.
With the existing pre-sales resource currently supporting a significant workload, you'll have the opportunity to make an immediate impact while helping shape how the function develops.
You'll work directly alongside Account Executives and become a key part of the sales process, rather than operating as a purely technical resource in the background.
You'll work across Sales, Product, Engineering, Services, Customer Success and Marketing, giving you exposure to the wider business and the opportunity to influence how customer requirements translate into product and delivery decisions.
You'll spend your time solving genuine customer problems — leading discovery, designing solutions, running workshops and demonstrations, and helping education and assessment organisations understand how technology can address their requirements.
The role operates on a hybrid basis, with 1–2 days in the office, including Tuesday and Thursday, alongside flexibility to work remotely.
This is an opportunity to join a growing EdTech SaaS environment, take ownership and develop alongside a pre-sales function that is still being built out.
