Job summary

Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to EU and industry-funded projects in optical design and advanced packaging. The role spans design, modelling, simulation, and experimental validation of optical devices and systems for next-generation packaging in communications, AI, sensing, and quantum technologies.

The successful candidate will develop new packaging processes and demonstrate integrated demonstrators.

Qualifications

PhD in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience designing and simulating optical devices, components, or systems.
Experience using commercial or research software for optical, electromagnetic, or multiphysics simulation.
Hands-on experimental research with laboratory validation of concepts.
Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering or research projects.
Strong communication and technical report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

Design, model, and simulate optical devices, components, and systems for advanced packaging applications.
Develop and validate new optical design methodologies and assist in optimizing packaging processes through experiments.
Collaborate with packaging researchers to translate design concepts into validated prototypes and demonstrators.
Contribute to development, characterization, and optimization of packaging technologies via laboratory research.
Participate in academic and industry-funded research projects and publish results.
Prepare technical reports, publications, and project presentations.
