Job summary

Smartbox Group in Dublin is seeking a Platform Engineer to join the Technical Operations team, reporting to the Platform Engineering Manager. You’ll keep user-facing and production systems running 24/7, enhance workflows, and partner with development teams to improve services and tooling.

You will design and maintain cloud infra in AWS with Terraform, operate Kubernetes clusters with Helm/ArgoCD, and implement GitOps CI/CD.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in technical support, systems administration, or platform/infrastructure engineering.
• Proficiency in Linux and networking fundamentals (DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS).
• Hands-on with Kubernetes, Docker, and modern CI/CD tooling (GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins).
• Experience with AWS and Terraform for cloud automation.
• Experience with Elasticsearch and log management; scripting in Python or Bash.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure in AWS using Terraform.
• Operate production Kubernetes clusters with Helm, ArgoCD, and AWS EKS.
• Implement GitOps-driven CI/CD pipelines for infra and app deployments.
• Enhance platform reliability with monitoring, alerting, and observability (Prometheus, Grafana).
• Automate operational tasks with Bash, Python, Go; troubleshoot incidents across layers.
• Support large-scale, database-driven systems (MySQL a must; PostgreSQL a plus).
• Contribute to capacity planning, scaling strategies, and performance optimisations.
• Maintain centralised logging (Elasticsearch, Filebeat, rsyslog, Kibana) and 24x7 on-call rotation.
