Job summary

Galway City Council is seeking to form a panel for future Driver / Plant Operator B posts. The role is central to delivering quality services to the public across environmental, roads and housing maintenance, and recreation facilities in Galway City.

Duties include driving plant and transport, conducting daily checks, attending training, and adhering to health & safety policies. Flexibility for on-call and varied tasks is required.

Responsibilities

• To drive or operate, in any part of Galway City, as directed, any item of plant or transport owned or hired by Galway City Council which he/she is qualified to drive.
• Conduct daily vehicle checks and maintain records.
• Carry out duties of a lower grade as directed.
• To implement and abide by Galway City Council’s Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• To attend training as considered necessary by the Council on an ongoing basis.
• Manage and maintain Council resources effectively and efficiently.
• Comply with on call and out of hours arrangements as necessary.
• Attend to emergency work outside of normal working hours as requested.
• To carry out such other duties as may be required by the Foremen, Supervisors, Engineers or as delegated.
• Undertaking all training programmes as required from time to time by the Council.
• Ensure compliance with all organisational policies, procedures and legislation.
• Support and participate in the establishment and maintenance of improved standards and quality initiatives.
• Demonstrate flexibility and mobility consistent with the needs of the service including the use of new technologies.
• Operate such systems (including information technology) as are necessary to achieve maximum efficiency in the position.
