The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the payroll function for Elis Ireland and Northern Ireland, ensuring employees are paid accurately, on time and in line with all legislative, contractual and company requirements. The role provides leadership to the payroll team, supports payroll system improvements, and works closely with HR, Finance, Operations, IT and external providers to deliver an efficient, compliant and employee-focused payroll service. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for Elis Ireland and Northern Ireland, ensuring payroll is processed accurately and within agreed timelines.
  • Ensure payroll compliance with relevant Irish and UK payroll legislation, statutory deductions, pension requirements, tax obligations and company policies.
  • Lead, support and develop the payroll team, ensuring clear responsibilities, effective workload management and strong service delivery.
  • Review and validate payroll inputs including starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, absence, holidays, deductions, benefits and other pay adjustments.
  • Work closely with HR and Operations to ensure payroll data is accurate, complete and submitted on time.
  • Partner with Finance to support payroll reconciliations, payroll reporting, cost allocation and month-end requirements.
  • Act as the key point of contact for payroll queries, escalations and employee payment issues, ensuring timely and professional resolution.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality, GDPR compliance and appropriate data governance.
  • Manage relationships with external payroll, pension, benefits and system providers, including Zellis/Optimum or any future payroll platforms.
  • Support payroll system improvements, upgrades, process changes and digitalisation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Ensure robust payroll controls are in place, including checking, approvals, audit trails and segregation of duties.
  • Prepare payroll reports, analysis and insights for HR, Finance and senior management as required.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate payroll documentation and responding to payroll-related queries.
  • Keep up to date with payroll legislation, statutory changes and best practice, ensuring Elis remains compliant.
  • Drive continuous improvement across payroll processes, documentation, communication and reporting.
