Job summary

Grant Thornton Ireland is seeking an Assistant Manager to join our Payroll Team. You will support end-to-end payroll processing for a diverse client portfolio and advise on technical payroll matters within the Tax team.

The role requires strong knowledge of Irish payroll legislation (PAYE, USC, PRSI, BIK) and experience with ROS and EFT, plus familiarity with Quantum, EuropayX and Sage Micropay. You will mentor junior team members and drive improvements.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of payroll experience in a payroll bureau or professional services environment; IPASS qualification desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish payroll legislation including PAYE, USC, PRSI and BIK, with ROS & EFT experience.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Quantum, EuropayX and Sage Micropay; strong Excel skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of end-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for client payroll queries and ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Ensure payrolls are processed accurately and in compliance with Irish payroll legislation and Revenue requirements.
  • Support the Payroll Manager by mentoring junior team members and driving process improvements.
  • Provide technical payroll expertise within the Employment Tax team and contribute to payroll-related projects.

Assistant Manager - Payroll
About the Role

We are looking to hire an Assistant Manager to join our growing Payroll Team at Grant Thornton. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a fast-paced, expanding team that delivers high-quality payroll services to a diverse client portfolio.

The successful candidate will support the management of end-to-end payroll operations, provide technical payroll expertise within the Tax team, and help ensure the highest standards of compliance, accuracy, and client service. This role requires strong technical payroll knowledge, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple client deadlines while supporting the development of junior team members.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Support the management of end-to-end processing of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for client payroll queries, ensuring a high standard of service and timely resolution of issues.
  • Ensure payrolls are processed accurately and in compliance with Irish payroll legislation, maintaining all statutory records and Revenue requirements.
  • Support the Payroll Manager by reviewing payroll processes, mentoring junior team members and driving continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical payroll expertise within the Employment Tax team and contribute to payroll-related projects as required.
Skills and Attributes
  • 4 years' payroll experience in a payroll bureau or professional services environment, with an IPASS qualification desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish payroll legislation, including PAYE, USC, PRSI and Benefits-in-Kind (BIK), with experience using ROS & EFT processes.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Quantum, EuropayX and Sage Micropay, along with strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and client relationship management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • High attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and an interest in using AI and technology to enhance payroll processes.
