Job summary

AIR Sligo in Ireland is seeking a driven Automation Equipment Engineer to take ownership of commissioning activities and act as the central technical interface across internal teams. The role focuses on transforming ambiguity into structured, actionable tasks and ensuring smooth project progression.

You will lead cross-functional collaboration during late-stage assembly, support FAT/SAT activities, and communicate effectively with customers.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
• 3–5 years of experience in automation or machine building.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical and software systems in automated machinery.
• Excellent analytical and problem-structuring skills.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of machines during late assembly and post power-up phases to ensure full functionality before delivery.
• Act as the primary interface between assembly, electrical, software, and engineering/design teams to centralise technical communication.
• Liaise with the customer post power-up, maintain issues lists, and assist the project manager with customer communications.
• Ensure on-time delivery of this project phase with support from the project manager and wider team.
• Convert unresolved issues into clearly defined, actionable tasks with owners and resolution paths.
• Manage outstanding items, snag lists and technical issues through to closure.
• Coordinate cross-functional activities during commissioning to meet milestones.
• Engage early in the project lifecycle to understand machine design and technical requirements.
• Support FAT and SAT activities, including travel to customer sites as required.
• Document and communicate technical changes to relevant teams.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Design to resolve challenges efficiently.
• Report to the Automation Equipment Engineer Lead on project status and technical matters.
