Job summary

Beacon Hospital is seeking a Medical Director of Clinical Informatics to lead the clinical voice in the EHR Modernisation Programme as it migrates from MEDITECH Magic to Expanse, with go-live planned for Oct 2028. Qualifications

• Medical degree and active registration with the Irish Medical Council.
• Experience as a Consultant or senior clinical leader in an acute hospital.
• Strong understanding of acute hospital workflows and clinical governance.
• Experience leading clinical change or transformation involving medical staff.
• Ability to influence senior clinical colleagues and build consensus.
• Knowledge of clinical safety, data protection and information governance.
• Experience in clinical informatics or EHR implementation is advantageous.
• Experience with MEDITECH Magic or Expanse is desirable.

Medical Director of Clinical Informatics

Beacon Hospital is seeking an experienced and highly credible clinical leader to join our EHR Modernisation Programme as Medical Director of Clinical Informatics.

This is a rare opportunity to play a central role in one of the most significant clinical and operational transformation programmes undertaken by Beacon Hospital. The programme will transition the hospital from MEDITECH Magic to MEDITECH Expanse, with a planned go-live in October 2028.

As Medical Director of Clinical Informatics, you will be the senior medical voice within the programme, ensuring that clinical safety, patient care and the needs of our medical workforce remain at the heart of the design and implementation of the new Electronic Health Record.

The role

Working closely with the Medical Director, Director of Nursing Informatics, EHR Programme Director and clinical leaders across the hospital, you will:

• Act as the visible clinical champion for the EHR Modernisation Programme.
• Lead medical engagement and support the adoption of new digital workflows.
• Build and lead a network of clinical informatics leads and subject-matter experts across the medical specialties.
• Translate clinical requirements into clear system and workflow specifications.
• Co-chair the Clinical and Operational Design Authority and oversee clinical sign-off on workflows, order sets, documentation and decision-support tools.
• Ensure the EHR is configured in line with evidence-based practice, hospital policies and relevant clinical standards.
• Provide senior clinical oversight of EHR-related safety, risks and mitigation plans.
• Advise the EHR Programme Board and hospital leadership on clinical informatics, adoption and patient safety.
• Help ensure that the programme delivers measurable improvements in clinical efficiency, patient safety and the experience of healthcare professionals.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A medical degree and active registration as a medical practitioner, including eligibility for registration with the Irish Medical Council.
• Significant experience as a Consultant or senior clinical leader in an acute hospital environment.
• A strong understanding of acute hospital workflows, multidisciplinary care and clinical governance.
• Demonstrable experience leading clinical change, quality improvement or transformation involving medical staff.
• The credibility and communication skills required to influence senior clinical colleagues and build consensus.
• A sound understanding of clinical safety, data protection and information governance in healthcare.
• A pragmatic, resilient and collaborative approach to organisational and technological change.

Experience in a senior clinical informatics role or EHR implementation role would be an advantage.

Experience with MEDITECH Magic or Expanse, or a postgraduate qualification in digital health or health informatics, would also be desirable.

Terms

The position will be structured on a part-time basis, within the range of 0.5 FTE. Alternatives to make this role a full FTE position will be explored with the candidate.

Remuneration will reflect the seniority and responsibilities of the appointment and will be benchmarked at consultant level.

The role will report to the Medical Director or Chief Medical Officer and will hold clinical safety and adoption accountability to the Beacon EHR Modernisation Programme Board.
