Job summary

Arup in Dublin is offering a multi-month work placement for Mechanical Engineering or Building Services students. You will work with Building Services engineers on decarbonisation strategies, energy modelling, and integrating renewable technologies on real projects.

You will gain hands-on experience, attend learning sessions, visit construction sites, and contribute to technical reports while collaborating with architects and fire engineers.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (NFQ Level 8/9 or equivalent).
  • Interest in sustainable development and decarbonisation.
  • Willingness to learn and work on real projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with decarbonisation strategies for buildings and energy technologies.
  • Perform Thermal and Building Regulation Compliance modelling using IESVE or similar tools.
  • Analyze new technologies for incorporation into projects for sustainable design.
  • Support the design of building services systems (ventilation, heating, cooling, energy modelling).
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Collaborate with Architects, Fire Engineers and other disciplines.
  • Gain exposure to real-world environments and apply your course learnings.
  • Visit construction sites to monitor progress and inspect installations.

Arup is seeking talented students to join our team in Dublin over the period of a few months. We look for students who are ready to jump into the professional world; diverse individuals with inquisitive minds and a desire to challenge.

You will work alongside skilled professionals and contribute to the success of real projects. You will also enjoy learning sessions with technical experts within your team, working on local projects and all kinds of social events.

As a Mechanical Engineer work placement student at Arup, you will be working closely with experienced Building Services engineers to:

  • Prepare and input to decarbonisation strategies for buildings with respect to both operational efficiency and adoption of renewable energy technologies.
  • Undertake Thermal and Building Regulation Compliance modelling using IESVE or other similar software.
  • Carry out analysis ofnew technologiesand how they can be incorporated into our projects to ensure a sustainable and robust design.
  • Assist project teams with the design of a range of building service systems (e.g. ventilation, heating and cooling, energy modelling).
  • Technical report writing.
  • Working with Architects, Fire Engineers & other disciplines within Arup to develop designs.
  • Gain exposure to real world professional environments and have the opportunity to put your course learnings into practice.
  • Visit construction sites to review progress andmonitorthe quality of installation works.

Our teams are involved in a wide range of sectors including Education,Commercial Real Estate, Science & Industryand Healthcare to name but a few.

Some of ourrecentprojects of note include the refurbishmentand extensionof the UCD Science Block, UCD Centre for Learning Building, TCD E3 Learning Foundry and TCD Old Library Renovation. We are currently helping to deliver the National Children’s Hospital, the new National Maternity Hospital, office new build and retrofits, as well as several large-scale data centre projects across the European region.

We're looking for students who are undertaking a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (NFQ Level 8/9 or equivalent).
