Mechanical Lead - Power Generation | West Dublin
Tier 1 Main Contractor
The Opportunity
A leading Irish main contractor with a strong track record in energy and mission-critical infrastructure is looking for a Mechanical Lead to take ownership of the mechanical scope on a major power generation project in West Dublin.
The project is a large-scale engine-based power plant built to support grid resilience and the growing share of renewables on the Irish network. You'll be the client's key mechanical person on site, leading the package from installation through testing, mechanical completion and handover to commissioning. This is a role for someone who enjoys owning a scope, solving problems on the ground and seeing complex plant come to life.
What You'll Be Doing
- Taking full ownership of the mechanical package, including engine auxiliaries, fuel gas and fuel oil systems, lube oil, cooling, compressed air, HVAC and fire protection
- Managing mechanical sub-contractors and OEM vendor teams day to day, keeping works safe, on programme and to specification
- Planning and sequencing mechanical works in a congested site with multiple trades and heavy lifting operations
- Reviewing P&IDs, isometrics, layouts and vendor documentation, and raising and closing out technical queries with the design team
- Driving the quality agenda: ITPs, weld and NDT records, hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, flushing and cleanliness checks
- Building system turnover packages and walking down systems with the commissioning team
- Running mechanical progress meetings and reporting status, risks and look-ahead plans to the Project Manager
- Leading by example on safety, with a firm grip on permits to work, lifting plans, hot works, confined spaces and hazardous area requirements
- Managing punch lists, as-built records and O&M documentation through to final handover
What You'll Bring
- A mechanical engineering qualification, or a strong trade background (pipefitting, mechanical fitting or similar) with progression into site leadership
- At least 5 years experience leading mechanical works on power, energy, oil and gas, pharma, data centre or heavy industrial projects
- Hands-on knowledge of piping systems, rotating equipment and plant installation
- Exposure to reciprocating engine or gas turbine plants is a major advantage
- A solid grasp of testing and completion processes, and of how good installation sets up a smooth commissioning phase
- The confidence to manage sub-contractors and vendors firmly but fairlyClear communication, sound reporting and comfort with digital project tools
What's On Offer
- A senior role on one of the most significant energy projects in the country
- Highly competitive salary and package, commensurate with experience
- Long-term career progression with a contractor that has a strong pipeline across energy, data centres and infrastructure
