Job summary

BSS Building Staff Solutions is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Estimator to join the pre-construction team in Dublin. You will lead mechanical tenders from enquiry through to contract award, review documentation, and work closely with the wider pre-construction group to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.

You will mentor junior estimators, identify value engineering opportunities and maintain strong client relationships across Ireland and Europe.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Mechanical Estimator in an M&E contracting environment.
• Proven ability to deliver tenders from enquiry to contract award.
• Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
• Strong take-off and Bills of Quantities preparation skills.

Responsibilities

• Review tender docs, drawings, specs and employer requirements.
• Prepare detailed take-offs and Bills of Quantities.
• Produce accurate, competitive mechanical cost estimates.
• Evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Mentor junior estimators and collaborate with pre-construction team.
• Develop estimating procedures and maintain quality standards.

BSS Building Staff Solutions is recruiting on behalf of a leading Irish Mechanical & Electrical contractor with over 25 years experience delivering complex construction projects across Ireland and Europe. Their portfolio includes high-profile data centres, pharmaceutical, commercial, industrial and mission-critical developments.

Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join their pre-construction team at their Dublin office.

The Role

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will take responsibility for preparing accurate and competitive mechanical tenders from enquiry through to award. You will work on major building services projects while mentoring junior estimators and collaborating closely with the wider pre-construction team.

Key Responsibilities

• Review tender documentation including drawings, specifications and employers requirements.
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities.
• Produce accurate and commercially competitive mechanical cost estimates.
• Obtain, review and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Ensure all quotations are technically compliant and complete.
• Identify commercial risks, exclusions and value engineering opportunities.
• Prepare comprehensive tender submissions within strict deadlines.
• Present completed estimates to senior management.
• Liaise closely with electrical estimators and the wider pre-construction team.
• Mentor and support junior estimators.
• Assist in developing estimating procedures and quality standards.
• Manage multiple tenders while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator within an M&E contracting environment.
• Proven experience delivering mechanical tenders from enquiry through to contract award.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • HVAC systems
  • Mechanical pipework
  • Process pipework
  • Plumbing services
  • Mechanical building services installations
• Excellent understanding of mechanical materials and installation methods.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong experience preparing detailed take-offs and Bills of Quantities.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Excellent numerical, commercial and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet demanding tender deadlines.
• A proactive approach with excellent attention to detail.

Desirable

• Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or Quantity Surveying qualification.
• Experience working on large commercial, pharmaceutical or data centre projects.
• Experience mentoring junior estimators.
• Knowledge of value engineering and risk management processes.
