Qualifications

  • 3rd level degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience with 3-D CAD systems and developing mechanical assemblies.
  • Attention to detail in drawings, packaging, and labeling.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work with urgency and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Spirometry unit to drive continuous roadmap delivery.
  • Design and develop aspects of a device and assist in delivering project artefacts.
  • Distill requirements into clear, actionable work packages for the project team.
  • Ensure documentation and artefacts are delivered at each release point.
  • Assist in the design and development of new products and maintenance of existing products.
  • Collaborate across R&D, Production, Materials, Quality, Sales and Marketing.

Vitalograph is the world’s leading manufacturers of medical respiratory diagnostic devices and software, used in the diagnosis of respiratory disorders, and advanced high-reliability equipment and software systems used in respiratory end-point clinical drug trials.

The role

The Mechanical Engineer will work in our Spirometry unit, to help drive continuous roadmap delivery. Spirometry is a common office test used to assess how well your lungs work by measuring how much air you inhale, how much you exhale and how quickly you exhale. Spirometry is used to diagnose asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other conditions that affect breathing.

The team

The Spirometry team consists of hardware, mechanical and software engineers and the Mechanical Engineer will assist the team in developing and maintaining features for our spirometry devices.

The responsibilities of Mechanical Engineer will include:

  • Projects
  • Designing and developing some aspects of a device.
  • Assisting the project team in distilling requirements into clear, actionable work packages.
  • Ensuring project artefacts e.g. documentation are delivered at each release point.
  • Assist in the design and development of the new products
  • Assist in the maintenance of the existing products
  • People
  • Operating in the project team in a co-operative, respectful manner.
  • Maintaining a positive and motivating outlook.
  • Liaison with ex-house consultants and agencies
  • Liaison with R&D, Production, Materials, Quality, Sales and Marketing staff
  • Process
  • Assisting in the planning, scheduling and delivery of engineering outcomes.
  • Ensuring that all work and tasks carried out are consistent and compliant with our Quality Management System.
The ideal candidate

The Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Have a 3rd level degree, or equivalent, in a Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Have a strong team ethic.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Demonstrate competence in own area.
  • Work with moderate guidance in area of knowledge.
  • Create and maintain product drawings, packaging drawings, label drawings, etc. Attention to detail is essential.
  • Working on 3-D CAD systems to develop mechanical assemblies.
  • Have the ability to perform the duties specified effectively and efficiently.
  • Have the ability to complete all aspects of a given task timely, and to a high standard.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with those he/she works with both in and ex-house.
  • Have the ability to work with others in a spirit of good will and cooperation.
  • Have a strong sense of urgency and ownership.
  • The following skills would be advantageous:
  • Experience using Solid Edge.
  • Experience with 3D printer, prototyping.
