Job summary

Veolia in Kilkenny is seeking a Mechanical Design Lead to oversee multidisciplinary projects for water and wastewater infrastructure, from concept to delivery.

Lead design teams, manage the full lifecycle, and ensure client engagement while mentoring engineers and ensuring standards compliance in a hybrid, permanent role based in Kilkenny.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Level 8/9) or equivalent.
• 7+ years' experience in mechanical design, ideally in water sector.
• Proven leadership experience managing design teams and project delivery.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and process plant layout.
• Proficiency with design tools, modelling software, and engineering calculations.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs.
• Practical site exposure advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate design teams delivering mechanical designs for water/wastewater projects.
• Manage full design lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design and handover.
• Act as main technical contact for clients and project stakeholders.
• Oversee and approve mechanical layouts, equipment specifications, and P&IDs.
• Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulations, and internal quality requirements.

About the Role

An engineering organisation in the water sector is seeking a Mechanical Design Lead to oversee multidisciplinary design projects and guide a growing team. This role spans concept design through delivery, ensuring high‑quality solutions for water and wastewater treatment infrastructure across Ireland.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate design teams delivering mechanical designs for water/wastewater projects
