Job summary

Boston Scientific Galway site seeks a Manufacturing Engineer P2 to provide daily operational support in Ethylene Oxide sterilization while leading improvement projects. You will design, qualify, and validate equipment, manage cycle improvements, train technicians, and partner with Quality, EHS and global teams to deliver safe, compliant manufacturing solutions.

The role requires hands-on experience in medical devices or related fields and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

  • NFQ Level 8 Major Award ideally in a Materials / Engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ethylene Oxide sterilization systems and cycle validations is an advantage.
  • Excellent technical capabilities, communication skills, teamwork abilities and initiative.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in medical device packaging technologies is a distinct advantage.
  • Hands-on experience in medical device, electrical, sterilization or mechanical fields is required.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a growing Ethylene Oxide sterilization area, developing, troubleshooting, standardising, and improving production methods.
  • Champion safety practices and improvements in the area.
  • Liaise with other Sterilization Operation sites, Global Sterilization Assurance, Quality, Facilities, Health and Safety, and Materials handling.
  • Represent Galway Sterilization within the Boston Scientific global arena.
  • Project manage equipment improvement and new cycle projects.
  • Equipment expert and SME for troubleshooting, problem solving and process improvement; train technicians.
  • Lead design methods, part sourcing, and documentation.
  • Perform equipment qualifications and validations, including report writing.

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer P2 on a permanent basisto join our team in our Galway site.

Job Purpose:

Provides daily operational support to the Ethylene Oxide Sterilization area while in parallel completing improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within a growing Ethylene Oxide Sterilization area in developing, trouble shooting, standardising, and improving existing production methods and procedures.
  • Champion safety practices and improvements in the area.
  • Liaising with other key functions: Other Sterilization Operation sites, Global Sterilization Assurance, Quality, Facilities, Health and Safety, Material handling team.
  • Represent Galway Sterilization within the BSC global arena.
  • Project manage equipment improvement and new cycle projects.
  • Equipment expert and SME for troubleshooting, problem solving and process improvement; including training of technician population.
  • Take a lead role in design methods, part sourcing and documentation.
  • Perform equipment qualifications and validations, including report writing etc.
  • Design, specify, manufacture, test and document production equipment, changes and improvements.
  • Interface with a variety of BSC personnel and with outside vendors when necessary while performing the above.
  • Work with technical team on for preventative maintenance procedures with an assigned process or area.
  • Assists in implementing technical improvements under the teams C.I. program.
  • Communicates any concerns about work process regarding environmental impact, health or safety issues to their Manager.
  • Owns the key performance metrics for the ME function.
  • Actively promotes and participates in a cross-functional teamwork environment.
  • Evaluates in conjunction with EHS new equipment/processes/chemicals for environmental impact/effect to eliminate or lessen such impacts/effects.
  • Gives technical guidance to Associate Engineers and Technicians.
  • Is an influential team member, fully motivated to achieve and demonstrate best practices in line with the Manufacturing Engineering Department and Site objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the set-up, maintenance and troubleshooting of Ethylene Oxide sterilization systems and cycle validations is an advantage.
  • Excellent technical capabilities, communication skills, teamwork abilities and initiative
  • Proven ability to work well both as part of a team but also able to work on own with minimum supervision.
  • Industry experience in combined Ethylene Oxide sterilisation and medical device packaging technologies a distinct advantage.
  • Hands on experience in any medical device, electrical, sterilization or mechanical field is a requirement.
