Job summary

ESS LTD in Ireland is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join the operations and engineering team. You will be responsible for maintenance of plant, equipment and auxiliary services, with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, aligned to GMP, HACCP and safety guidelines.

The role requires flexibility to cover day, night and on-call shifts. You will work with production to minimise downtime, improve preventive maintenance programs, document CMMS activities, and support continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing/production setting.
  • Experience with PLCs, SCADA and process control.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance activities.
  • Proactive, flexible and team oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuous and efficient work aligned with plant schedule.
  • Perform mechanical repairs on high-speed, PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Support preventative maintenance programme and PM scheduling.
  • Minimise downtime through root-cause analysis and quick fixes.
  • Document CMMS data and ensure spare parts usage is tracked.
  • Collaborate with production and train staff in cross-skilling.
  • Ensure safety protocols, LOTO and environmental standards are followed.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and review safety incidents.

Job description

Maintenance Technician
As a member of the operations and engineering team, you have a responsibility for the activities of the department, including maintenance of plant, equipment and auxiliary services, electrical and mechanical trouble shooting in accordance with GMP, HACCP and safety guidelines, working in cooperation with all other departments, promoting information exchange and teamwork within the department. The maintenance technician must contribute to the efficient and profitable operation of the plant and maintain a positive work atmosphere, by behaving and communicating in ways that foster good relationships with employees, co-workers and managers, while achieving performance standards.
This position requires flexibility to cover, a days, 24/7 shift and on-call.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
  • Ensuring a continuous and efficient outflow of work aligned to achieving the Plant performance to schedule in cooperation with the Operations Manager or delegate.
  • Manual work, which involves physical effort and fitness.
  • Responsible for executing and improving the company preventative maintenance programme through scheduled PM’s based on risk assessment and performance reliability.
  • Minimise downtime on equipment, through fast response, effective root cause analysis and good problem solving techniques to eliminate recurring issues.
  • Monitoring and record the use and of spare parts.
  • Responsible for mechanical repairs to high-speed, PLC-controlled plant, handling and packaging equipment, incorporating pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
  • Fabricate mechanical components, replace seals and mechanical seals, verify pump alignment as required to ensure equipment functions to its optimum.
  • Be active in identification, quantification, implementation and presentation of equipment continuous improvement projects.
  • Check equipment availability and operational status.
  • Ensure equipment uptime is maintained through front line asset care program and maintenance requests are logged on the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Ensure maintenance orders are released completed in a timely manner and ensure all materials and equipment is available.
  • Review of maintenance weekly plan based on availability of resources in conjunction with all stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the production team supporting them and providing advice, also participating in staff training and development in cross-skilling and other job-related competencies.
  • Ensure full compliance of external contractors when on site.
  • Participate in quality investigation on all non-conforming batches and complaints.
  • Any defects/malfunction/out of spec materials/equipment noted must be reported to the attention of management and the quality department.
  • Co-ordinate and review plant GMP/Hygiene standards in the areas, workshops and toolboxes, ensuring actions items are completed.
  • Ensure all correct material segregation is adhered to in a timely manner.
  • Participate in review of hazards and safety or environmental incident investigations, follow-up and closeout in the area.
  • Ensure that all resources (people and equipment) are utilized to maximum efficiency when in use and report any equipment defects/breakdowns to maintenance personnel and your manager.
  • Ensure that all data relating to each system transaction is promptly and accurately recorded on the CMMS system and other supporting systems and any deviations are promptly investigated.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are managed safely and all associated safety protocols are carried out fully including LOTO, confined space entry along with any other safety related standards. Adhere and advocate high standards of safety at all times.
  • Ensure cycle counts are completed as required by the Company. This includes count, investigation, and correction (where possible) and issue escalation (where necessary).
Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years working in a manufacturing/production setting.
  • Senior Trade Qualification or National Diploma/Degree in Mechatronics/Fitter/Maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Alan Bradley PLC’s, Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet & Profibus communications protocols.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ATEX zoned areas and equipment.
  • Familiar with SCADA process control systems for process and fault diagnosis
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office, ERP/CRM and outlook desirable.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical process plant and associated maintenance activities.
  • Have a positive, proactive and flexible approach to working in a team environment.
