Job description

Automation Maintenance Engineer | Dublin

Keep critical automation running. Build your expertise. Develop a long-term engineering career.

If you're an experienced maintenance engineer who enjoys fault-finding, problem-solving and working with automated equipment, this could be an excellent opportunity to take your career into a highly automated environment.

Our client is an established Irish engineering business specialising in automated material handling and customised automation solutions. With decades of industry experience and a major long-standing customer relationship in Dublin, they are now looking to strengthen their maintenance team with an engineer who can help keep a sophisticated, high-speed operation running at peak performance.

This is much more than a reactive maintenance position. You'll become part of a specialist engineering team working with modern automation technology, developing your technical skills and contributing to the reliability and continuous improvement of a major automated operation.

What You'll Be Working On

You'll be responsible for keeping a range of automated systems operational within a busy distribution environment.

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Diagnosing and repairing faults across automated machinery and material handling systems
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and improve reliability
  • Working on high-speed conveyors, sortation equipment and associated automation
  • Investigating electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control-system faults
  • Supporting PLC fault-finding and diagnostics
  • Responding quickly and effectively to breakdowns to minimise operational downtime
  • Completing maintenance activities through CMMS systems
  • Carrying out technical cleaning and general maintenance where required
  • Identifying recurring issues and suggesting improvements to equipment reliability
  • Working closely with colleagues to maintain high levels of equipment availability
  • Ensuring all maintenance activity is completed safely and to a high engineering standard
The Person We're Looking For

We're interested in engineers who are comfortable working with automated machinery and who enjoy getting to the root cause of technical problems.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Previous experience maintaining automated or industrial machinery
  • A strong electrical maintenance background
  • Experience with both preventative and reactive maintenance
  • Proven fault-finding and diagnostic ability
  • Experience with conveyors, material handling equipment or automated production machinery
  • A practical, methodical approach to problem-solving
  • The flexibility to work shifts and overtime when required
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit engineering team

Your background could come from a range of environments, including manufacturing, logistics, food production, pharmaceuticals, electronics, medtech or other highly automated operations.

Experience That Would Give You an Advantage

You don't need to tick every box, but experience with any of the following would be particularly valuable:

  • High-speed automated systems
  • Conveyor or sortation technology
  • PLCs and control systems
  • Pneumatic and electromechanical equipment
  • CMMS maintenance software
  • Automated logistics or distribution systems
  • An engineering qualification or apprenticeship
  • Practical engineering experience will be valued just as highly as formal qualifications.
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This position offers the chance to join a business where people tend to stay and where technical development is actively encouraged.

You'll receive:
  • €55,000 basic salary
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Paid overtime
  • Scheduled annual salary increase
  • 21 days' annual leave
  • 5% employer pension contribution following the qualifying period
  • Enhanced life assurance
  • Permanent health insurance / income protection
  • Ongoing technical training
  • Support towards further education and relevant third-level qualifications
  • Genuine opportunities for long‑term progression
A Shift Pattern Designed Around Work-Life Balance
  • The final shift pattern is currently being confirmed, but the position is likely to operate on a week-on / week-off basis.
  • Combined with the shift premium and overtime opportunities, the pattern is designed to provide an attractive balance between earning potential and time away from work.
A Career, Not Just Your Next Maintenance Job
  • The client has built a strong reputation for employee retention and is continuing to invest in its people, technology and operations.
  • You’ll be joining a stable and growing engineering business, working alongside experienced maintenance professionals and gaining exposure to sophisticated automation that can significantly broaden your technical skill set.
  • If you're looking for a role where you can use your existing maintenance experience, develop further into automation and build a long-term engineering career, we'd be very interested in hearing from you.
