Job summary

ESS Ltd. in Nenagh, Ireland, seeks a capable Maintenance Manager to supervise and coordinate the Maintenance Department within a dairy manufacturing site.

You will lead technicians and contractors, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with GMP, safety and quality standards. The role requires a third-level engineering degree, strong leadership and communication skills, and experience in a regulated dairy environment.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree in process, mechanical, electrical or a similar discipline.
• A trade qualification with significant maintenance experience.
• Proven leadership and management of technical staff.
• Experience in a milk processing regulated environment preferred.
• Excellent people management and communication skills.
• Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and project management.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• IT literate with knowledge of CMMS software.
• Ability to lead multi-skilled maintenance technicians.

Responsibilities

• Supervise maintenance department and coordinate site activities.
• Provide maintenance/engineering support for dairy production to high standards.
• Develop factory maintenance budget and manage costs within approved budget.
• Maintain plant asset register and CMMS preventive maintenance program.
• Lead maintenance technicians and contractors across the plant.
• Roster maintenance staff and ensure out-of-hours contingency response.
• Develop skills versatility and cross-training within the team.
• Recruit and hire maintenance staff as needed.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement; highlight opportunities.
• Ensure site compliance with regulatory standards and GMP documentation.
• Interface with operations and quality; report to senior management.

Job description

Job purpose: To supervise and coordinate the activities of the Maintenance Department providing support for the manufacture of dairy products to the highest standards in the safest, most cost effective and efficient manner

Responsibilities include:

• Responsible for all maintenance aspects within the site
• Provide maintenance/engineering support for the manufacture of products to the highest standards in the safest, most cost effective and efficient manner.
• Responsible for developing factory maintenance budget for approval and managing site maintenance costs to meet the approved budget.
• Responsible for maintaining plant asset register
• Responsible for managing the sites equipment preventative maintenance program through the CMMS system
• Responsible for maintaining effective stock control of spare parts for all equipment
• Lead a team of Maintenance Technicians/Fitters and contractors across the plant supporting all production departments in line with key business goals.
• Rosters the Maintenance Technicians/Fitters on the weekly schedule. Ensure contingency response for out of hours and critical failures.
• Manage the skills versatility of the Maintenance team to ensure a high level of cross-trained technical capability exists within the team.
• Responsible for the suitable selection & hiring of Maintenance technical staff in support of the business.
• Active engagement in innovation and continuous improvement, taking ownership in highlighting areas where improvements are possible and/or opportunities exist
• Ensures the site complies with all related regulatory standards
• Strict adherence to all site safety Policies
• Compete all work according to site Quality standards and GMP-Documentation and housekeeping.
• Continually interface with operations and quality to ensure that the maintenance function is supporting the business on an ongoing basis.
• Report and communicate effectively with the senior management team on an ongoing basis.

Education / Experience

• A third level engineering degree in process, mechanical, electrical or similar discipline
• A trade qualification with significant previous experience in a similar role would be considered
• A proven track record in the leadership & management of technical staff is required
• Previous relevant experience in milk processing regulated environment is an advantage
• Excellent people management skills
• Strong inter-personal and communication skills
• Excellent problem solving, trouble shooting and project management skills in an industrial environment
• High motivation, Flexibility and the ability to work on own initiative
• Ability to lead & motivate multi-skilled maintenance technicians.
• IT Literate
• Fluency in English written and oral.
• Food industry experience and knowledge manufacturing in the dairy industry would be a distinct advantage
