Job Summary

Our client, a leading manufacturer within the welding consumables industry, is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for an initial 3-month contract. This is a hands-on role focused on breakdown maintenance, fault finding and equipment reliability across a range of ageing production machinery. The successful candidate will have a strong manufacturing background, be comfortable working independently, and thrive in a practical, fast-paced industrial environment where minimising downtime is critical.

Responsibilities

Carry out reactive and breakdown maintenance on production-critical equipment. Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults to minimise downtime and support production output. Complete planned and preventative maintenance activities. Inspect, repair and replace mechanical components as required. Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Work closely with production teams to ensure equipment reliability and performance. Maintain and troubleshoot a variety of manufacturing and process equipment including: Industrial furnaces Powder processing and handling equipment Atomisation units Sifting and screening machinery Industrial tumble dryers Ovens Electrode manufacturing equipment Conveyors, motors, pumps and associated plant equipment Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Technician or Mechanical Fitter within a manufacturing environment. Strong background in breakdown maintenance, fault finding and troubleshooting. Experience maintaining industrial production equipment and machinery. Strong knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, pumps, motors, conveyors, hydraulics and pneumatics. Ability to diagnose and resolve issues independently with minimal supervision. Comfortable working on older machinery with limited documentation or OEM support. Confident learning new equipment and adapting quickly in a busy manufacturing environment. Comfortable working in a hands-on industrial setting involving metal processing, dust and heavy machinery.
