Job summary

Centrica’s Irish operations are seeking a Legal Counsel - Infrastructure & Projects to support major infrastructure and energy projects across Ireland and the UK. Based ideally in Dublin, the role partners with project, engineering, procurement and commercial teams to navigate lifecycle challenges.

You will draft and negotiate construction and project documents, manage external advisers, and monitor regulatory developments while helping grow the Legal Infrastructure team’s capabilities and AI

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor or barrister eligible to practise in Ireland
• 1–4 years post-qualification experience in private practice, industry or both
• Experience in infrastructure, construction, energy or major projects
• Strong drafting, negotiation and commercial advisory skills
• Able to manage stakeholders and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Collaborative, adaptable and open to expanding legal expertise, including AI
• Experience with NEC/FIDIC or other construction contracts
• Exposure to procurement, planning, environmental, property or land rights matters

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Centrica’s Legal Infrastructure team for a Legal Counsel - Infrastructure & Projects as the team grows to support significant infrastructure investment across Ireland and the UK.

As Centrica’s Irish infrastructure portfolio expands across generation, storage, renewables, grid and emerging energy technologies, this new role will support projects central to Ireland and the United Kindgom’s energy security, decarbonisation and infrastructure development.

Location

This role is ideally based in Dublin, where the successful candidate will work closely with colleagues supporting Centrica's growing infrastructure portfolio in Ireland.

We are also open to considering applications from candidates based elsewhere in Ireland or the UK, provided you are able to travel regularly to Dublin and our Reading, UK, office as required. While we welcome applications from a wider geographical area, there is a strong preference for the successful candidate to be based in or near Dublin.

About the Role

As part of Centrica’s Legal Infrastructure team, you will be supporting major infrastructure and energy projects across their lifecycle, working closely with project, engineering, procurement, commercial and operational teams across both Ireland and the wider Centrica group.

Key responsibilities include:

• Advising on the development, delivery and operation of major infrastructure and energy projects.
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction, engineering, consultancy and project-related documentation.
• Supporting procurement, governance, regulatory, planning, environmental and consenting workstreams.
• Advising on construction, project delivery, land, property, infrastructure rights and dispute-related matters.
• Supporting investment approvals, board papers and strategic decision-making processes.
• Managing external legal advisers and supporting effective management of legal spend, precedents, guidance and training materials.
• Monitoring legal and regulatory developments and helping to build knowledge and capability across the Legal Infrastructure team.
• Supporting the development of legal colleagues by sharing infrastructure and construction law expertise and best practice.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Qualified solicitor or barrister in Ireland, the UK or another recognised common law jurisdiction, eligible to practise in Ireland.
• The responsibilities associated with this position would be suited to an individual with 1 to 4 years of post-qualification experience in private practice, industry or both; however, BGE welcomes applications from all candidates interested in opportunities at this level.
• Experience in infrastructure, construction, energy, engineering or major projects.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, legal risk and commercial advisory skills.
• Able to manage stakeholders and competing priorities independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative, adaptable and keen to broaden legal expertise and expand AI use.
• Experience in energy, utilities, infrastructure, NEC/FIDIC or other construction contracts.
• Exposure to procurement, planning, environmental, property or land rights matters.
