Job summary

Defence Forces Naval Service is recruiting qualified Marine Engineers to join as Direct Entry Marine Engineering Officers. In this leadership role, you will oversee engineering operations both at sea and ashore, ensuring the maintenance and performance of critical onboard systems.

You will serve as Head of the Engineering Department on board during sea postings, leading Engineering Branch personnel and maintaining propulsion, power generation, fuel, water, ventilation, air conditioning and hotel

Qualifications

• Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineering Officer) Class 1 or Class 2 (Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport)
• Or a marine qualification deemed equivalent by the Minister for Defence
• Applicants must be under 50 years of age on 31 December in the year of application
• At least 5ft 2in (157.48 cm) in height
• No tattoos visible above the collar while serving
• Must meet work permit eligibility to stay in Ireland
• Medical, physical and security clearance standards will be assessed

Responsibilities

• Head of the Engineering Department on board during sea postings, part of senior management
• Lead and manage Engineering Branch personnel, oversee technical operations and maintain ship systems (propulsion, power, fuel, water, ventilation, HVAC and hotel services)
• Training and readiness for fire and hull breach scenarios and related systems maintenance
• Shore-based appointment after sea rotation focused on project management, maintenance planning or technical research
• Opportunities for CPD and pursuing qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Health & Safety and Chartered Engineer status
