Job summary

Join the Naval Service as a Direct Entry Marine Engineering Officer. You will oversee engineering operations at sea and ashore, ensuring critical onboard systems perform reliably and assisting the mission of maritime defence and security.

The role combines leadership of the Engineering Department with hands-on technical oversight, including training and readiness for emergencies, plus potential shore-based postings and funded CPD.

Qualifications

• Citizen of Ireland or legally entitled to work in Ireland.
• Must meet medical, physical and security clearance standards.
• Under 50 years on 31 December of application year.
• Certificate of Competency or equivalent marine engineering qualification.

Responsibilities

• Head of the Engineering Department on board during sea postings; senior management role.
• Lead and manage Engineering Branch; oversee propulsion, power, fuel, water, HVAC and hotel services.
• Train and ensure readiness for fire and hull breach scenarios; maintain related systems.
• After sea rotation, take a shore-based appointment focusing on project management, maintenance planning or research.
