The Lead Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Thoracic Surgery & Thoracic Service Development at Blackrock Clinic leads expert nursing care across the thoracic surgical pathway, coordinating referrals, assessments, the ERAS programme and long‑term follow‑up.

Working with Professor Karen Redmond and the MDT, you will develop patient pathways, lead Pectus Check, Lung Check and Lung Volume Reduction programmes, and contribute to education, research and quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Educate ward nurses on thoracic surgery and ERAS.
• Deliver education for GPs, respiratory physicians, oncologists and community teams.
• Undertake research, audit and conference presentations.
• Develop referral networks and mentor nursing colleagues.

Responsabilités

• Provide advanced assessment and management for robotic thoracic surgery and related procedures.
• Ensure continuity of care across the entire thoracic patient journey.
• Coordinate referrals and triage.
• Lead pre-operative optimisation including pulmonary function testing and anaesthetic assessment.
• Deliver patient education and ERAS preparation.
• Lead ERAS pathways including mobilisation, nutrition, chest drain management, pain control and discharge planning.
• Coordinate MDTs and follow-up clinics.
• Develop SOPs and governance for thoracic services.
