We are excited to announce an opening for a Junior Prompt Engineer within our team! This is a crucial role in driving the transformational use of cutting-edge artificial intelligence across Workforce Management at Softworks, acting as the bridge between foundation model capabilities and user-facing value. We believe that the true power of AI lies in execution and turning research into functional, scalable, and highly reliable business tools.
The successful candidate will support our AI lab’s rapid prototyping initiatives by testing prompts, evaluating model responses, and assisting in building early-stage POCs from concept through testing.
Acting as an entry-level practitioner, this role combines hands‑on prompt crafting, quality assurance, and dataset preparation to validate new product capabilities.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly curious individual passionate about generative AI to learn from experienced engineers and build a career within a growing organisation.
Role Responsibilities:
Rapid Prototyping & POC Development
- Assist senior engineers and product managers in building and iterating on early‑stage POCs to validate new AI‑driven features, workflows, and integrations.
- Help turn early AI ideas into functional prototypes that prove what is possible while supporting product and operational efficiency validation.
Prompt Crafting & Engineering:
- Write, test, and refine prompts across various foundational models, such as GPT‑4, Claude 3, Llama 3, Gemini, etc., to achieve high quality, reliable outputs.
- Experiment with prompt structures to optimise response accuracy, tone, and logic formatting.
Quality Assurance & Evaluation:
- Run systematic testing frameworks on model outputs to evaluate performance, latency, and effectiveness.
- Categorise model responses, identify hallucinations, and log performance metrics to continuously improve overall reliability.
Data Preparation & Management:
- Assist in gathering, cleaning, and formatting datasets for prompt testing, few‑shot examples, and basic RAG experiments.
- Ensure data preparation adheres to security, quality, and organisational standards.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
- Foster collaboration within the Softworks Group and liaise effectively with other departments and stakeholders.
- Promote knowledge sharing, technical excellence, and continuous learning within the AI team.
- Stay up to date with the rapidly evolving AI landscape, model updates, and emerging tools.
- Document prompt experiments, successes, failures, and best practices to share knowledge with the broader AI team.
Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or related field.
Professional Skills:
- Foundational understanding of LLMs, including context windows, prompting techniques, strengths, and limitations.
- Hands‑on experience, or a strong tinkering mindset, experimenting with AI tools, e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney.
- Analytical mindset with high attention to detail for analysing text outputs, identifying edge cases, and verifying logic formatting.
- Adaptability to thrive in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing technology landscape.
- Excellent problem‑solving, analytical and technical troubleshooting skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with Ai‑assisted development tools, such as Cursor or Claude.
- Basic understanding of LLM orchestration frameworks, e.g., LangChain, LlamaIndex, or direct API documentation, e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic.
- Demonstrate agility in a fast‑changing technological environment, being open and adaptable to unsuspecting change.
- Encouraging excellence and goal achievement within Softworks, while striving for the same in your personal development.
- Communicate regularly and efficiently with all stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Maintain strong co‑operative relationships within the team and other departments to ensure that the organisation continues to function successfully.
- Ability to analyse complex data, identify issues, and recommend solutions.
- High level of accuracy and a commitment to producing high quality work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Strong ethical standards and a professional approach to work.
