Your impact

As an Intermediate Sustainability Engineer, you will join the Sustainability Life Sciences Ireland team and support the delivery of sustainability services across a diverse portfolio of projects. Working with multidisciplinary teams, you will help Jacobs and our clients achieve their sustainability objectives across environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities.

This role is suited to engineers with sustainability experience as well as those from related disciplines such as mechanical, chemical, process, environmental, energy, building services, manufacturing, or utilities who are interested in developing their career in sustainability. You will contribute to sustainability assessments, reporting, and project delivery while building expertise in areas such as decarbonisation, energy efficiency, carbon reduction, water conservation, sustainable materials, and green building certifications.

Reporting to the Sustainability Department Manager for Life Sciences in Ireland, you will collaborate with Senior Sustainability engineers across Ireland and the wider Global Sustainability team, gaining exposure to industry-leading projects, tools, and best practices while supporting innovative and sustainable outcomes for our clients.

This is an exciting opportunity for engineers looking to further develop their sustainability expertise or transition into the sustainability field, while playing a meaningful role in delivering positive environmental outcomes for our clients, communities, and the broader Life Sciences sector.

Key Accountabilities Include
  • Support the delivery of sustainability projects for the Ireland Life Sciences team contributing to the achievement of project sustainability objectives, goals and targets
  • Collaborate effectively with project team members and provide support and knowledge sharing to graduate and junior engineers as required
  • Engage with clients, design teams, and construction teams to help integrate sustainability requirements and objectives throughout project delivery
  • Assist in tracking, monitoring, and reporting project sustainability metrics and prepare sustainability-related deliverables in accordance with project schedules and client requirements
  • Contribute to the delivery of sustainability certification processes, including LEED, BREEAM, WELL, and other relevant green building rating systems, under the guidance of senior team members where required.
  • Support the Sustainability Department Manager and senior colleagues in the preparation of proposals, presentations, and other business development activities
  • Monitor developments in sustainability legislation, industry standards, and green building certification schemes, sharing relevant insights with project teams and clients.
  • Contribute to research initiatives and the development of technical guidance documents, white papers, case studies, and thought leadership content for the Life Sciences and Sustainability teams
Here's what you'll need
  • Third-level qualification in Engineering or a related discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Process, Energy, Building Services, Manufacturing, or similar).
  • Relevant engineering experience, with an interest in applying technical knowledge to sustainability, decarbonisation, resource efficiency, and environmental performance.
  • Experience working within project environments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver technical solutions.
  • Interest in sustainability assessment methodologies, including energy modelling, carbon accounting, life cycle assessment (LCA), and green building certification processes. Previous experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Knowledge of, or a strong interest in developing expertise in sustainability challenges and opportunities associated with decarbonisation, energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable materials, circular economy principles, and carbon reduction initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to evaluate technical information and use data to support decision‑making.
  • Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • A proactive and curious mindset, with a willingness to develop expertise in sustainability, pursue professional accreditations (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, WELL), and stay abreast of industry developments.
