Job summary

Artemis Human Capital is representing a scaling construction business recruiting an Interim Finance Director to own the financial accounting function and drive improvements across reporting, controls and systems. Reporting to the MD, you will lead financial reporting, controls and business partnering across the group.

The role suits an experienced Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager available at short notice, with a hands-on approach in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with 6+ years' post-qualification experience.
• Previous experience in a Financial Controller, Senior Finance Manager or similar finance leadership role.
• Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance and balance sheet control expertise.
• Proven experience leading finance teams and improving financial processes, controls and reporting.
• Strong systems and analytical capabilities, including advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.
• A proactive, commercially minded and hands-on approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end close, management accounts, dashboards and packs.
• Lead and develop finance teams, fostering accountability and performance.
• Maintain robust balance sheet controls and reconciliations.
• Oversee statutory reporting, audits and tax compliance.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity, debtors, creditors and working capital.
• Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and controls.
• Drive systems enhancements and automation for data quality and reporting.
• Partner with MD and senior stakeholders to provide meaningful financial insights.

Artemis Human Capital are delighted to be representing this scaling construction business on the appointment of an Interim Finance Director. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller/Finance Director to join a the group, with an immediate start available. Reporting directly to the MD, you will take ownership of the financial accounting function and drive improvements across financial reporting, controls and systems.

Key responsibilities

• Financial Reporting: Oversee the month-end close, preparation of management accounts, reporting dashboards and monthly management packs.
• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor and develop the financial accounting and accounts payable teams, fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
• Financial Controls: Maintain robust balance sheet controls, reconciliations and high standards of financial reporting.
• Statutory Reporting & Tax: Oversee statutory reporting, external audit requirements and tax compliance obligations.
• Cash Flow & Working Capital: Manage cash flow forecasting, liquidity, debtors, creditors and working capital performance.
• Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, reporting efficiency and internal controls.
• Systems & Automation: Drive systems enhancements, automation initiatives and improvements in data quality and reporting capabilities.
• Business Partnering: Work closely with the MD and senior stakeholders to provide meaningful financial insights and support operational and commercial decision-making.
