Job summary

RED Engineering Design seeks a Power Systems Engineer in Ireland, joining our Dublin or Cork teams. You will lead MV/HV power system design across data centres, industrial, commercial, oil & gas & pharma sectors, with responsibilities spanning protection, switchgear, and substation design.

You will work with a experienced team on complex projects, travel to client locations as required, and contribute to achieving zero-carbon built environments through robust electrical design and QA/QC.

Qualifications

• 4-5 years’ experience as a power systems engineer.
• Chartership or in progress advantageous.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Full Irish driving licence.
• Fluent English and eligible to work in Ireland.
• Proficient with Dialux, Amtech, Etap and Eracs Cdegs.

Responsibilities

• Be proficient in MV topology design (equipment selection, protection, MV cable studies, load flow analysis, harmonics, fault analysis, HV/MV transformer sizing).
• Be proficient in HV topology design (Sub-station design, switchgear sizing, earthing, protection).
• Discuss pros/cons of fixed vs withdraw switchgear and RMUs.
• Interact with Utility and client teams; coordinate meetings.
• Size sub-station footprints, MV sizing, and layouts.
• Create underground MV/HV routes and pits; design transformer compounds.
• Develop protection schemes and interlocks between utility and client.
• Prepare basis of designs and white papers on equipment selection.
