Job summary

The Johnstown Estate is seeking a practical Maintenance Operative to join our team. This hands-on role involves carrying out general repairs and maintenance across the hotel, with a strong focus on keeping systems and facilities in good order.

You’ll troubleshoot issues, perform plumbing tasks, and assist with painting, carpentry and electrical maintenance as required. A full clean driving licence is advantageous, and hospitality experience is not essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on, practical experience in a maintenance, handyman, trades or similar role.
• Comfortable troubleshooting problems and finding practical solutions.
• Experience in plumbing or understanding of basic plumbing repairs.
• Familiar with a range of skills such as painting, Carpentry, tiling, electrical or general maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out general repairs and maintenance throughout the hotel.
• Responding to maintenance requests and resolving issues quickly and efficiently.
• Carrying out basic plumbing repairs and maintenance, including leaks, taps, toilets and drains.
• Assisting with electrical and lighting maintenance where appropriate.
• General handyman duties: painting, decorating, carpentry, tiling and minor building repairs.
• Maintaining equipment, machinery, fixtures and fittings throughout the property.
• Carrying out routine checks and preventative maintenance to identify issues early.
• Responding to urgent maintenance issues such as leaks or power problems.
• Keeping maintenance areas, tools and equipment safe and tidy.
• Keeping records of work completed and reporting issues needing attention.
• Monitoring stock of maintenance supplies and informing when replenishment is needed.
• Working closely with the Maintenance Team and other hotel departments.
• Following health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
