Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is recruiting a Support Service Assistant to help provide domestic and catering services across hospital facilities. The role supports cleaning, catering, laundry, and porter functions, with full training and opportunities to work across departments and clinical areas.

Candidates will contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors, and will follow health and safety procedures including infection prevention

Qualifications

• Knowledge of integrated support services including cleaning, catering, laundry, and porter duties.
• Training in the safe use of cleaning, catering, laundry, and mailroom equipment.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements.
• Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
• Knowledge of Manual Handling and Lifting Techniques.
• Understanding of quality systems and safe working procedures.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate with staff, patients, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Carry out cleaning activities in line with NHS Scotland National Cleaning Specifications and infection prevention standards.
• Operate cleaning equipment and support services to maintain a safe, hygienic environment.
• Assist with catering duties such as meal preparation, service, and dishwashing.
• Support laundry and patient clothing services as required.
• Perform porter and messenger duties, patient transport, and escorting.
• Support mail distribution, movement of equipment and furniture, site security checks.
• Complete required documentation and report faults to supervisors.
• Wear PPE and comply with health and safety procedures and department policies.
