Job summary

Kilmainhamwood Nursing Home and Convalescent Centre is seeking a Health Care Assistant to join our team on a full-time basis, including weekends. Working as part of the Named Nurse team, you will deliver person-centred care and support residents with daily activities.

The role requires a QQI Level 5 in Healthcare, good communication, and a compassionate approach. We offer comprehensive induction, training, and a supportive environment within Mowlam Healthcare.

Qualifications

• FETAC/QQI Level 5 healthcare qualification or in progress.
• Experience in a healthcare environment preferred with HIQA knowledge.
• Excellent communication skills and a caring, empathetic approach.

Responsibilities

• Deliver person-centred care to residents as part of a team.
• Get to know residents’ interests and provide companionship.
• Promote mobility and assist to maintain or improve function.
• Assist with personal appearance, hygiene and eating/drinking needs.
• Participate in social activities and maintain safety and cleanliness.
• Maintain clear communication with residents’ families and staff.

Job description

Kilmainhamwood Nursing Home and Convalescent Centre is set in the grounds of the Kilmainhamwood Retirement Village and enjoys magnificent scenery and recreational facilities.

We are now looking for a Health Care Assistant to join our team on a full time basis, including weekends.

Purpose of the Role

The Care Assistant works as a member of a team delivering care to the residents via the Named Nurse concept. As such a team member, the Care Assistant contributes to the fulfilment of Mowlam Healthcare's philosophy of care.

What does the role entail?

• Supporting the nursing staff and team in delivering quality person-centred care to meet the needs of residents
• Getting to know residents' interests and needs providing attention, support and companionship
• Promoting the mobility of residents, supervising and assisting as necessary to ensure optimum mobility is maintained and improved where possible
• Enabling and assisting residents to maintain their personal appearance /hygiene needs
• Enabling and assisting residents to eat/drink and achieve physical comfort
• Participating, organising and carrying out social activities
• Sustaining high level of communication between residents' family and staff, developing & maintaining good relationships
• Assisting in the upkeep of high standards of cleanliness in the home
• Contributing to the maintenance of Health and Safety in the home
• Any other duties deemed necessary by Nurse in Charge and management.

What are the Qualifications/Skills required?

• FETAC/QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare or equivalent (completed or in process of completing)
• Experience working in a healthcare environment (with a good knowledge of HIQA standards) preferable
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to maintain a positive approach
• Caring and empathetic nature
