My client is one of Ireland’s leading creative agencies, working with a broad mix of major brands and organisations across advertising, communications, digital and content.
The agency has a strong reputation for high-quality creative work and operates across multiple disciplines including client service, strategy, creative, digital, social, production and technology.
They are now seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join the senior leadership team and take responsibility for financial leadership, commercial performance and governance across the business.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a broad and influential role with regular exposure to the Board and senior leadership team. It combines strategic financial input with hands‑on ownership of the finance function and would suit someone who enjoys working close to the commercial heart of a business.
About the Role
The Head of Finance will act as a key adviser to the Managing Director, Board and leadership team, providing insight around financial performance, profitability, business planning, risk and investment decisions.
You will have overall responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, tax, audit, payroll, financial controls and governance, while also playing an important role in the agency’s commercial performance.
A significant part of the role will involve working with senior client and leadership teams on pricing, revenue recognition, work in progress, profitability and commercial models.
The role requires someone who can move comfortably between strategic discussion and detailed financial delivery, with the confidence to challenge, influence and support senior stakeholders across the agency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Act as a key financial adviser to the Managing Director, Board and senior leadership team.
- Provide clear insight and recommendations on financial performance, commercial risk and future planning.
- Support business planning, growth initiatives and investment decisions.
- Develop and implement financial plans that align with the agency’s wider objectives.
Commercial Performance & Client Profitability
- Take ownership of revenue recognition and reporting.
- Oversee client invoicing, work in progress and associated financial processes.
- Work closely with senior leadership and client teams to assess client and project profitability.
- Support the development of pricing and commercial models for existing and new services.
- Provide financial input into client negotiations, tenders and major commercial opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen margins and improve overall commercial performance.
- Lead the monthly management accounts and financial reporting process.
- Ensure accurate, timely and meaningful reporting to senior management and the Board.
- Oversee the preparation of annual statutory financial statements through to audit completion.
- Ensure compliance with Irish GAAP, FRS 102, the Companies Act 2014 and other relevant accounting requirements.
- Monitor key financial and operational KPIs and communicate performance clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Oversee payroll, ensuring accuracy, appropriate controls and statutory compliance.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process.
- Manage ongoing financial forecasting and scenario planning.
- Monitor performance against budget and forecast.
- Identify variances and work with senior stakeholders to agree corrective actions where required.
- Provide the leadership team with clear visibility on likely future financial performance.
Cashflow & Tax
- Manage cashflow forecasting and banking relationships.
- Oversee accounts receivable, credit control and collections.
- Ensure timely payment of suppliers, payroll and other creditors.
- Take responsibility for Irish tax compliance, including VAT, Corporation Tax, PAYE/PRSI and other relevant obligations.
- Manage relationships with Revenue, tax advisers and other external specialists.
Governance & Compliance
- Manage the statutory audit process and relationship with external auditors.
- Ensure robust internal financial controls and risk‑management processes are maintained.
- Maintain compliance with relevant corporate, regulatory and governance requirements.
- Oversee shareholder and shareholding transactions where required, including associated financial, accounting, taxation, legal and company‑secretarial matters.
Team, Systems & Operations
- Lead, mentor and develop the finance team.
- Take ownership of finance systems and reporting tools, ensuring they remain accurate, secure and fit for purpose.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and reporting.
- Drive efficiency and automation across finance operations.
- Oversee relevant contractor agreements, service agreements and external supplier arrangements where these fall within the remit of finance.
- Provide support on selected operational and HR‑related matters in conjunction with external advisers where appropriate.
Experience & Skills Required
- You will be a qualified accountant, ideally ACA or ACCA, with at least eight years’ relevant finance experience, including experience operating at senior management level.
- You will have strong experience across management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, tax, audit and financial controls.
- A strong commercial mindset is essential, with the ability to understand project and client profitability and translate financial information into clear commercial recommendations.
- You should be comfortable working directly with senior leadership teams and Boards and have the confidence to challenge and influence decision‑making.
- Strong financial analysis and forecasting capability is required, together with advanced Excel and solid financial systems experience.
- You will have a strong understanding of Irish tax, statutory reporting and compliance requirements.
- Experience working within an advertising, marketing, media, professional services or other project‑based commercial environment would be a distinct advantage.
- You will also need excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to combine strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery.
- A proactive, pragmatic and solutions‑focused approach will be important, together with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
