Title: Head of Engineering Projects

Role and purpose:
- The client requires a seasoned senior manager to act as the projects lead within the engineering function to ensure that engineering can make commitments and deliver to them with confidence, and can respond to changing needs as the programmes develop.
- The role will have a strong influence on the delivery strategy for infrastructure projects and programmes and will be integral to the clients project delivery structure working in close alignment with the Project Management Office.
- Represent Chief Engineer on major organisational projects (including property)
- Sponsorship of major projects on behalf of the Engineering department
- Maintain a consolidated view of engineering commitments to projects and project-driven changes to how the engineering team will operate
- Maintain a roadmap of engineering projects and project commitments and facilitate priority calls where required between projects to ensure that expectations and commitments can be managed effectively
- With the PMO, coordinate all projects both planned and active, and ensure impact to BAU is planned and minimised.
- Serve as the primary engagement point in engineering for new projects, and act as an escalation point for project managers within Engineering and within the PMO
- Deputise for/supplement the Chief Engineer on programme boards and steering groups.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Engineering leadership with regard to major projects including projects across the organisation.
- Identify engineering resource gaps in sufficient time and develop strategies to address, reducing bottlenecks and project slippage.
- Comply with all relevant Data Protection legislation and comply with all Quality, Environmental, Energy, Sustainability, Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Being the accountable representative of the Engineering team.
- Lead the delivery of major infrastructure and technology programmes, ensuring procurement goals, scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets are met while proactively managing risks and issues.
- Ensure information is communicated in a transparent, accessible manner.
- Engage effectively with engineering and wider organisation subject matter experts, providing credible technical challenge, guidance, and oversight across Engineering and the organisation.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, ensuring engineering, operations, and external partners work cohesively toward shared objectives.

The ideal candidate would possess:
- Qualified to FETAC level eight or nine in a relevant Engineering discipline, Electrical desirable
- A track record of managing complex stakeholder relationships
- A track record of contract management, ideally within a public procurement environment
- Experienced in a senior management role (managing managers)
- A strong background in the management of high value and complex programs of work is required, along with a track record of successful engagements of a multifunctional nature.
- Experienced leading infrastructure and construction projects
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to connect decisions to long-term organisational goals
- Strong risk management capabilities
- Strong report-writing and presentation skills
- Proficiency in project management tools, methodologies and governance models (ideally supported by professional certification)
- This role will require regular travel between the sites and your office location.
- Some out-of-hours coverage will also be required.
- Driving license and access to own transport.
