Job summary

Fastnet is a growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead its mechanical, electrical and automation engineering function. This senior leadership role requires strong technical credibility, people leadership and a proven track record in delivering complex projects.

You will shape engineering standards, develop teams, manage client relationships and drive continuous improvement using digital tools and AI.

Qualifications

• Significant leadership experience in engineering teams.
• Strong grounding in mechanical, electrical or automation engineering.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and influencing technical decisions.
• Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management.
• Engineering director-level experience is desirable.
• Exposure to engineering strategy, governance, digitalisation or AI is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering function across mechanical, electrical and automation teams.
• Mentor and develop senior engineers and technical leads.
• Support engineering strategy development and implementation.
• Improve standards, tools, systems and reporting structures.
• Provide senior technical guidance across projects.
• Build strong technical client relationships and act as senior representative.
• Collaborate with project management, construction management and commercial teams.
• Support career development pathways for engineering talent.
• Drive continuous improvement, including use of digital tools and AI.
