Job summary

Partner Company in Ireland seeks a Director, Mechanical Engineering to lead the mechanical design authority for a global AI infrastructure portfolio. Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; Chartered status preferred.
• Senior technical leadership in mechanical design for large-scale data centre projects.
• Deep knowledge of data centre cooling systems and cooling control philosophies.
• Experience developing design standards, reference designs, or basis-of-design docs.
• Hands-on experience with high-density, liquid-cooled environments for AI/HPC workloads.
• Strong understanding of GPU cluster thermal requirements and facility-level design.

Responsibilities

• Establish engineering direction and ensure design consistency across regions.
• Develop and maintain mechanical design standards and basis-of-design docs.
• Lead reference design for AI infrastructure facilities balancing performance and cost.
• Own liquid cooling architecture and facility water systems in collaboration with tech teams.
• Guide active projects and resolve mechanical challenges impacting schedules.
• Monitor evolving AI cooling tech and update engineering standards accordingly.
• Lead design reviews and govern deviations from standards.
• Collaborate with electricians, structural and other engineers to optimise integrated designs.
• Standardise specifications for long-lead mechanical equipment with procurement.
• Champion safety, reliability, energy and water efficiency in operations.
• Mentor engineers and build the mechanical engineering team as pipelines grow.
• Provide regular updates on progress, risks, and delivery status.
