Job summary

AECOM is seeking an Industrial Placement Student in Ground Engineering in Ireland, based in Dublin with a hybrid work model. You will gain hands-on experience in ground investigations, data collection, and geotechnical modelling within a global infrastructure team.

Work will involve assisting with reports, designs, and tender documentation, collaborating with engineers and geologists, and applying health, safety and sustainability principles on site and in the office.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Geology with a 2:1 or higher.
• Excellent English communication and writing skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and other AECOM offices.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CAD tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support Ground Investigation Projects – assist with desk studies, site inspections, rockface surveys and geomorphological mapping.
• Data Collection and Analysis – gather, manage, and interpret geological and geotechnical data using tools like OpenGround and Leapfrog.
• Technical Reporting – assist in preparing interpretative and design reports and ground models.
• Design Support – help in the design and assessment of foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, earthworks and rock slope stabilisation.
• Numerical Modelling – develop skills in 2D/3D numerical analysis using company software for geotechnical modelling.
• Tender Documentation – assist in preparing Ground Engineering tender documents for construction.
• Collaboration and Teamwork – work with engineers, engineering geologists and environmental specialists on integrated solutions.
• Health, Safety, and Sustainability Awareness – apply HSE principles in site and office tasks.
