Job summary

Co-operative Housing Ireland is seeking a General Operative for our Blanchardstown office with regular travel across the Leinster region. The role supports upkeep, maintenance and presentation of housing stock across residential properties and common areas.

The successful candidate will undertake general maintenance, basic trades (carpentry, painting, plumbing), and assist with inspections and void property works, while adhering to health and safety regulations and company procedures.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a general maintenance, caretaking, or operative role.
• Good practical skills across basic trades (e.g. carpentry, painting, minor plumbing).
• Full clean driving licence.
• Willingness to travel throughout Leinster.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A commitment to high standards and tenant-focused service.
• Experience of delivering face to face customer service.
• Experience working within housing, local authority, or AHB environments.
• Knowledge of health & safety requirements.
• Safe Pass (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Preparing void properties for re-letting, including basic repairs, snagging, and presentation works.
• Assisting with inspections of properties and reporting defects or follow-up works required.
• Undertaking basic works across multiple trades such as painting, carpentry, minor plumbing, and general repairs.
• Ensuring all works are completed in compliance with health and safety legislation and organisational procedures.
• Using tools, equipment, and materials safely and responsibly.
• Liaising with CHI staff, contractors, and tenants in a professional manner.
• Supporting contractors on-site where required and assisting with access to properties.
• Recording details of works completed, materials used, and time spent for reporting and audit purposes.
• Identifying recurring maintenance issues and escalating these to line management.
• Maintaining vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working order.
• Travelling between sites across Leinster as required.
• Providing cover or assistance to other teams during peak periods or as operational needs arise.

Since our foundation in 1973 we have provided over 5,700 homes through homeownership, shared ownership and social rented co-operatives. As an Approved Housing Body (AHB), we work with various stakeholders in the housing sector, including Local Authorities, Government, aspiring homeowners, tenants and developers. We currently manage over 6,708 properties across Ireland.

ROLE OVERVIEW
