Job summary

Co-operative Housing Ireland is seeking a General Operative to join our team at the Blanchardstown office. You will support upkeep, maintenance, and presentation of our housing stock across the Leinster region, with regular travel between sites.

The role requires hands-on experience in general maintenance and basic trades, plus a full driving licence and strong customer service skills. You will work independently while upholding safety standards and tenant-focused service commitments.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a general maintenance, caretaking, or operative role.
  • Good practical skills across basic trades (e.g. carpentry, painting, minor plumbing).
  • Full clean driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Leinster.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to high standards and tenant-focused service.
  • Experience of delivering face to face customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out general maintenance and minor repair works across residential properties and common areas
  • Supporting responsive and planned maintenance programmes in line with organisational priorities
  • Preparing void properties for re-letting, including basic repairs, snagging, and presentation works
  • Assisting with inspections of properties and reporting defects or follow-up works required
  • Undertaking basic works across multiple trades such as painting, carpentry, minor plumbing, and general repairs
  • Ensuring all works are completed in compliance with health and safety legislation and organisational procedures
  • Using tools, equipment, and materials safely and responsibly
  • Liaising with CHI staff, contractors, and tenants in a professional manner
  • Supporting contractors on-site where required and assisting with access to properties
  • Recording details of works completed, materials used, and time spent for reporting and audit purposes
  • Identifying recurring maintenance issues and escalating these to line management
  • Maintaining vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working order
  • Travelling between sites across Leinster as required
  • Providing cover or assistance to other teams during peak periods or as operational needs arise.

Co-operative Housing Ireland (CHI) is the national organisation representing, promoting and developing co-operative housing in Ireland. Since our foundation in 1973 we have provided over 5,700 homes through homeownership, shared ownership and social rented co-operatives. As an Approved Housing Body (AHB), we work withvarious stakeholders in the housing sector, including Local Authorities, Government, aspiring homeowners, tenants and developers. Wecurrently manage over 6,708 properties across Ireland.


ROLE OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking a General Operative to join our team based in our Blanchardstown office, with regular travel throughout the Leinster region. This is a hands-on role supporting the upkeep, maintenance, and presentation of our housing stock.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

Desirable Requirements

  • Safe Pass (or willingness to obtain).
