The Bridge House Hotel & Leisure Club in Tullamore is seeking a General Maintenance Assistant to support day-to-day upkeep across guest areas, leisure facilities, restaurants and back‑of‑house spaces. The role suits practical individuals who enjoy problem-solving and working as part of a team.

You will perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, and assist with decorating, plumbing, and electrical tasks, while ensuring safety and minimal disruption to guests.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in hotel maintenance or handyman roles.
• Ability to carry out basic plumbing, carpentry and painting.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
• Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs throughout the hotel.
• Complete daily maintenance checks and preventative tasks.
• Respond to maintenance requests from departments promptly.
• Repair or replace fixtures and equipment as needed.
• Assist with decorating, painting and basic carpentry work.
• Carry out minor plumbing and electrical repairs where competent.
• Ensure heating, lighting and water systems operate efficiently.
• Support other departments during busy periods when required.
• Supervise external contractors on site and ensure safety policies are followed.

Role Responsibilities

The General Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the hotel, ensuring that all guest areas, bedrooms, leisure facilities, restaurants and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards. This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys practical work, problem-solving and working as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

General Maintenance

• Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs throughout the hotel.
• Complete daily maintenance checks and preventative maintenance tasks.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests from departments.
• Repair or replace fixtures, fittings and equipment where appropriate.
• Assist with decorating, painting and basic carpentry work.
• Carry out minor plumbing and electrical repairs where competent to do so.
• Ensure heating, lighting and water systems are operating efficiently.
• Maintain a professional, friendly and helpful manner when interacting with guests.
• Complete maintenance work with minimal disruption to guests.
• Support departments during busy periods where operationally required.
• Assist with supervising external contractors on site.
• Ensure contractors comply with hotel safety policies and procedures.
• Report any issues arising from contractor works.

Grounds & External Areas

• Maintain the appearance of hotel grounds, pathways and car parks.
• Carry out seasonal maintenance.

Health & Safety

• Comply with all Health & Safety policies and safe working practices.
• Report hazards, defects and accidents immediately.
• Ensure tools and equipment are maintained safely and securely.
• Assist with fire safety checks and emergency procedures.
• Work in accordance with Manual Handling and Safe Pass principles where applicable.

Key Skills & Requirements

• Previous experience in hotel maintenance, facilities or handyman role.
• Good practical knowledge of general building maintenance.
• Ability to carry out basic plumbing, carpentry and painting.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Desirable Qualifications

• Manual Handling certification
• Full clean driving licence is desirable
• Trade qualification or relevant maintenance experience
