Job summary

Avoca Ireland is seeking a General Ledger Accountant for a permanent hybrid role to join the Avoca Finance team. The position offers broad exposure across general ledger, month-end, intercompany, tax, and audit within a varied retail, food, hospitality, and e-commerce finance environment.

You’ll work in a hybrid pattern—three days in office and two days remote—clients, stock, and CAPEX reporting, with ongoing development and collaboration across teams to deliver accurate financial insights.

Qualifications

• Practical accounting experience with general ledger and reconciliation knowledge.
• Part-qualified, newly qualified, or qualified-by-experience applicants welcome.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to analyse financial information.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
• Ability to meet month-end and reporting deadlines in a busy finance team.
• Collaborative approach across teams to improve reporting.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate general ledger records and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, including accruals, prepayments, CAPEX, stock, and COGS journals.
• Reconcile retail and online revenue between EPOS, Oracle Cloud, and the general ledger.
• Manage assigned intercompany accounting, billing, reconciliations, and FX revaluation journals.
• Prepare schedules and supporting information for VAT, VIES, RTD, Intrastat and other required filings.
• Support internal and external audit requests with clear records and explanations.
• Investigate differences, resolve issues, and contribute to stronger controls and processes.
• Work closely with Finance colleagues and teams across the business to improve reporting accuracy and financial insight.
• Develop broader experience across retail accounting, e-commerce, stock, CAPEX, tax, audit, and financial systems.
• Take ownership, meet reporting deadlines, and contribute to continuous improvement across Finance.

About The Role

We are looking for a General Ledger Accountant to join the Avoca Finance team on a permanent basis.

This is a broad role with exposure across general ledger, month-end, balance sheet, revenue, e-commerce, stock, and COGS, intercompany, tax compliance and audit.

The role is hybrid, normally three days office based and two days remote, and suits a part-qualified, newly qualified, or qualified-by-experience accountant looking to broaden experience and continue developing within Finance.

What You'll Do

• Part-qualified, newly qualified, or qualified-by-experience candidates are welcome.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse and reconcile financial information accurately.
• Good attention to detail, organisation, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work to month-end and reporting deadlines in a busy environment.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach when working across teams.
• Experience with retail, Oracle Cloud, EPOS, Cognos BI, or Blackline is desirable but not essential.
• Relevant accounting or finance qualifications are welcome, but a degree is not required.
