Job summary

Cumann Lúthchleas Gael invites applications for the role of GAA Safeguarding Coordinator to promote safeguarding and protection of children and young people within the Association. Reporting to the Safeguarding Manager, you will be a key member of the National Safeguarding Team with responsibilities around risk assessments, compliance, and audits.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in safeguarding or related field.
  • Third level degree (NFQ Level 7+) required.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation in Ireland and GAA policies.
  • Experience in developing or coordinating safeguarding risk assessments or audits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee Child Safeguarding Risk Assessments and Statements for clubs, counties, provincial councils, and Central Council.
  • Coordinate risk assessments for overseas units.
  • Conduct safeguarding compliance audits across units and camps.
  • Deliver safeguarding training to clubs and counties.
  • Assist with policy implementation at club and county levels.
  • Provide guidance on alleged Code of Conduct breaches (Underage).
  • Collaborate with LGFA and Camogie Association on safeguarding initiatives.
  • Support external safeguarding audits and respond to queries from units.

Cumann Lúthchleas Gael is Ireland’s leading sporting and cultural organisation with membership approaching one million people and more than 500,000 playing participants at all levels. Home of the GAA, Croke Park Stadium is Ireland’s foremost sporting and entertainment venue. Over 1,500,000 visitors are welcomed annually to national and international events and the Croke Park campus also features Croke Park Meetings & Events and GAA Museum & Tours.

Applications are now welcome for the role of GAA Safeguarding Coordinator who shall play a key role in the promotion of safeguarding and protection of children and young people in the Association. Reporting to the GAA Safeguarding Manager, the successful candidate will be a key member of the Association’s National Safeguarding Team with specific responsibilities relating to safeguarding risk assessments, safeguarding compliance and any internal or external safeguarding audits or assessments.

Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinate and oversee the completion of the “Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment and Child Safeguarding Statement” process at agreed intervals, as completed by Clubs, Counties, Provincial Councils and Central Council.
  • Coordinate and oversee the completion of the “Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment and Child Safeguarding Statement” process for our oversea units.
  • Complete internal safeguarding compliance audits and or safeguarding compliance assessments on our own units.
  • Conduct safeguarding compliance audits at camps at Club and or County Level.
  • Deliver training to Clubs and Counties as required on the child safeguarding risk assessment and or safeguarding compliance audit process.
  • Assist with the implementation of the Association’s Child Safeguarding Policy at Club and County level.
  • Provide guidance to our units in dealing with alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct (Underage).
  • Coordinate and assist the participation of the Association, at all levels, in any external safeguarding audits or assessments.
  • Respond to queries relating to child safeguarding compliance from our units.
  • Assist the Association as appropriate on safeguarding audit matters in liaison with other Sports NGBs, Government Agencies and Departments, Association units and other relevant bodies as deemed appropriate.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and the Camogie Association to ensure effective collaboration in the area of safeguarding compliance and safeguarding risk assessment across all 3 Associations.
  • The position holder will also undertake any other such projects or responsibilities as may reasonably be delegated by his or her Manager.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the area of safeguarding and/or a relevant or related field;
  • A third level degree (Minimum Level 7 NFQ);
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding legislation on the island of Ireland and GAA and Gaelic Games Associations’ safeguarding policies;
  • Experience in developing and or coordinating child safeguarding risk assessment or safeguarding audits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Exceptional organisational skills with proven experience in working to tight deadlines and achieving set targets;
  • Ability to maintain high level of accuracy and attention to detail whilst working under pressure to strict deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently on own initiative and perform as part of a team;
  • Excellent administrative skills with a strong working knowledge of IT related packages and systems such as Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word);
  • An interest in, and understanding of the activities, objectives, policies and structure of the GAA.
  • Previous experience of working within the GAA (or similar organisation) at a professional or volunteer capacity;
  • The role holder must have access to a form of transport which will enable them to fulfil their responsibilities in full;
Other Requirements
  • Ability to be flexible in performance of responsibilities; Role will require work at weekends and late evenings during some periods.
