Job summary

Ability West in Galway invites applications for a Bus Driver to join our transport team. The role covers Galway/Tuam, offering 39 hours per week on a permanent basis, with a pay rate of €14.85–€18.39 per hour depending on experience.

Responsibilities include providing transport for service users, covering for permanent drivers, driving safely under road rules, and keeping the bus clean and well-maintained. The ideal candidate will be flexible, reliable and able to respond to short-notice changes.

Qualifications

• A full, clean B licence (and D/D1 where applicable).
• Evidence of Driver CPC is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide transport cover when permanent drivers are unavailable.
• Transport service users for outings and activities as directed.
• Drive safely in compliance with road rules and laws.
• Keep the bus clean and well-maintained.

Purpose of the Role

• To provide transport cover as required when permanent drivers are unavailable due to annual leave or other shortnotice absences.
• Provision of transport as required for service users e.g., outings, swimming etc. as directed by the manger of Ancillary Services.
• To drive the vehicle in a safe manner in accordance with the Rules of the road and relevant Road Traffic Acts which may be in operation.
• Be responsible for the general upkeep of the bus and ensure that it is kept clean and tidy at all times.

Essential Requirements

• A full, clean B, D &D1 driving licence.
• Reliability, flexibility, and the ability to provide cover at short notice are key.
• Evidence of the Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence.
